I had a terrible fast day yesterday. It was my 6th fast but my first really bad one. I was hungry, irritable couldn't concentrate all day. I am wondering ifnwhat youneat the night beforena fast has an effect on the fast. On Sunday evening I had a potato dauphinoise dish with chicken, ham and mushrooms and I wonder if it is the fault of the potatoes. Has anyone else had expereience with this? On fast days I usually eat nothing until 1pm then have a chopped up apple, I eat an orange mid-afternoon and then soup and a yughurt or a protein with veg for tea. This has worked well until yesterday, I still stuck to my eating plan but it was sooooooooooo hard. I ended up having a long, hot soak in the bath in the afternoon as I just couldn't do any work, housework, exercise or reading - my usual ways to keep busy on fast days.

Yes I'm sure your previous day does affect the fast. PhilT found a paper suggesting that low protein helps but I've found that low carb helps, so probably it depends on the person! Worth experimenting though.
Having said that, I think that some fasts are harder for no clear reason at all..it might have something to do with your body's perception of whether you are food deprived or not and that is complex!
