1 point about the 24 hour fast. It only has 1 sleep. I am uncertain about how the body stores/processes calories during sleep.
All the data about the longevity aspects of the 5:2 diet rely on 2 sleeps.
A 24 hour fast may be ok for losing weight though!
Oooh, lots of replies and thank you! I actually didn't do the 2pm to 2pm as I changed it from dinner time to dinner time. I have a 300 calorie meal for dinner and then a 200 calorie breakfast and then nothing again until dinner time, when I start to eat normally again (food then tastes like Heaven!). I did get hungry during the day and that's what it's all about I suppose. I just really look forward to that dinnertime after the fasting. I may just try all different things out and see how it goes. I'm not a fan of going to bed hungry although I do wake up NOT very hungry. So weird
Maybe I've misunderstood, but what I'm doing is having a 'normal' eating day on Day 0 - that means [for me] eating an ordinary breakfast, lunch and dinner - dinner at about 6, finished by 7. I don't eat anything later in the evening than that - no bedtime snacks for instance, as have never felt the need [it may help that I'm allergic to chocolate!].

Then Day 1 - the fasting day, I have black coffee for breakfast, bouillon cube dissolved in hot water for lunch [tiny bit of wheat flour in that, but can't imagine it's enough to get a carb rush!] and a light-ish evening meal. Then nothing else again until 'normal' breakfast [porridge] on Day 2 ...

That has so far lost me 5 lb over 2 and a half weeks, so I'm fairly new at this, but is another way better?
Abbeybufo, you are doing what most of us are doing and if it works, I wouldn't change it. I think the discussion on this thread is for those who find our approach not so convenient. Everyone has to find their own way of making it work!
