great job folks!
27 Jan 2013, 21:28
Hi all,

just wanted to say hi and well done with this v professional site. Ive been 5:2'ing since watching mm's tv doc back in august. Have come across anybody else doing it to date so stumbling onto this site was quite nice really. I find 5:2 style of eating quite easy really and have so far lost just over 2 stone. According to bmi calcs i have another stone to go. .but i reckon that will take much longer to come off compared to the first 2 - only time will tell. Im in no rush really.

Enjoy getting back into your old clothes folks . . . Another way of saving money . . Lol

all the very best

Hi baggytrousers
Welcome! It's good to hear you've found 5:2 fairly easy and have lost 2 stone in weight. I have around 20 pounds to take off (at least) so I love to hear success stories like yours! :)
Good luck with the last stone!

Hiya Jo

you'll have no problems losing the weight.

I notice u fast on the same days as i do. . . Good move!

I only do one thing different to mr m and that is that on my fast days i do actually fast. I dont eat a lower calorie intake. I found after a few weeks that it was easier not to eat anything on my fast days -will power wise than to have a few small meals.

I dont feel any worse for it, in fact i can still play a good game of squash on my fast days too , i have plenty of energy . . . U just need to keep the fluid levels high! !

All the best

Hi baggytrousers
That's interesting to hear. My husband is doing his fasting the same way, ie not eating at all until the next day. He thinks its easier too. I'll try it one day!

Hi Jo - and BT!

I'm another one who has all his calories in one meal - evening in my case.

I just thought one day - I won't eat until I feel hungry. And I never did! I had dinner in the evening, purely because it was expected of me - but I didn't feel hungry in the slightest. So I've never gone back to the three small meals I used to have.

In contrast, on a feed day - I often feel hungry. I either ignore it - or I drink something - or I snack! :( And if I snack, I know I'll feel hungry again shortly afterwards.

I am impressed, baggytrousers. Since the word 'fasting' has been misappropriated for what we do, which is eating up to 600 calories, perhaps we need to call your diet 'real fasting', or 'genuine fasting', or 'superfasting' :). Do you really have no calories for c.36 hours? Dr Mark P Mattson would approve, see here: http://crabsalloverhealth.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/mark-butcher-emails-michael-mosleys.html.

Hi Dom

Well i guess the nikerty science bods would actually say i'm not strickly fasting either - as i do have whatever drinks i like , whenever i like. ie water, sugar free cordial, decaf coffee with milk + small apple juice in the morning. I know milk has calories and so does the orange cordial ... so i guess if i were to strickly add up all these it might come to a 100 cals or more ... but hey life is for living right? I did try just drinking water ... but couldn't do it - so as long as it still seems to work i intend to carry on and see where it takes me.

thanks for the link ... will check it out !

all the best

As you say, whatever works! It is a fast day today for me, normally my only calories until evening are in the milk in my tea and coffee, but today I am going to try to go without i.e. just peppermint tea and black coffee. Definitely not planning to skip dinner though... From what some others have said it may actually be easier with 0 calories for about 22 hours (the Neurotrophic Factor high!?), and it might be healthier too.

I find it easier to have no cals for 22-24 hours but I'm not sure about going the full 36...I am v hungry by dinnertime but perhaps it is all in the mind...

definately in the mind i think ...

this morning was fast day ... and i had to make my 6 year old son's breakfast. Buttering that toast was torturous on the mind...

I find the fasting is much easier without calories. Once I start eating, I don't want to stop. I'm almost wondering if I couldn't manage 36 hours - of course having to cook for my son makes it hard in the evening.

Oddly, I can make his breakfast in the morning (usually french toast with syrup and fruit) and pack his lunch for school, and it doesn't bother me a bit.
