5:2 doesn't require the use of any supplements, however if your diet in general is deficient in some way then you may need to take them. I don't think most vegetarians find they are lacking in any particular area, so would think you're alright. Milk & milk products contain B12 don't they?

I would suggest getting some blood tests done to see if you are lacking in any particular area & adjusting our diet - or supplements - as necessary.

hi Moogie it is true that milk and milk products contain plenty of B12 and if you knowe or not plenty of IGF-1 it is not thrue??? we dont wont them or we like them????Im just diagnozed with cancer and I just realized what we realy eat!!!!!!!!!!!!Wojciech

Wojciech, my very best wishes and positive thinking are coming your way. Hope that you will overcome this obstacle as soon as possible!!!
Regarding B12, as I've learnt from this forum, it can be only found in meat, eggs and dairy products so you need to eat them if you want natural sources of this vitamin.
Perhaps, since you are now in a place where you need all the nutrition you can get, you could start eating all the food the groups till you're healthy again?

I found a problem with there being a lack of veggie friendly recipes out there so have started a blog up to document my 5:2 journey - the plan is for it to be a mix of fasting and feasting food.

I've been tinkering and learning for the last week and a half and would love some feedback on it either as a comment on the blog or a reply here.

Nicky_94 really appreciated what you wrote very interesting. Often tried to become vegetarian but fatigued and went back to meat for the quick fix of protein ... I think. With this WOE I am more veg on fast days and loving that. Agree wholeheartedly for my success to aim for "maximum nutrition in minimum calories" . I really find this forum fascinating

Wojciech, you will be in my thoughts.

You may find it interesting and helpful to look into the work that Valter Longo has done in the area of cancer treatment, particularly with respect to chemo. (If you saw the Horizon documentary, you may recall that it was Longo who put Mosley on a 3-day fast.) If you do a search for something like "Valter Longo cancer fasting", you will find many links. Here are few that I have looked at:

http://www.cancer.gov/ncicancerbulletin/071012/page5

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2815756/

http://news.menshealth.com/a-shocking-new-way-to-kill-cancer/2012/02/10/

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=fasting-might-boost-chemo

To quote one of the articles, the message is:
Combining chemotherapy with periods of fasting (not eating for 48 to 60 hours before treatment) was more effective in treating cancer in mice than chemo alone, according to new findings in the journal Science Translational Medicine.

I wish you all the best. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Best wishes, Wojciech!

The first thing I would do in your shoes is, as Natasha recommends, to get some 48 hour fasts under my belt. At least then you won't be feeding the cancer cells!

There was much talk of B12 earlier in the thread. Have a look at the blog in this link (thought it important enough to deserve its own post):

http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5085&p=51574#p51574

I've been a veggie/vegan for over 11 years, now, and I've never felt the need for a supplement (apart from flax seeds) and I'm as fit as a flea!

Cheers, B&W
