Green tea (beverage and pills)
30 Apr 2013, 16:03
Hello,
I would like to lose weight. I have seen much articles about green tea (beverage and pills). According to you, it is a good solution? It is efficient? It is better to drink green tea or take green tea pills? I would like to try but I don't know the effects.
Help me please!

Thanks. Claire.
Green tea helps boost your metabolism and also helps regulate your glucose levels. And there is a long list of other health benefits associated with green tea. I drink around 4-5 cups a day and lost 7 kg in 3 weeks when I started 5:2. I think the tea is affecting my weight losd in some extent. If you're not a tea drinker maybe the pills is an easy way to give it a try?
I have green tea and chromium picolinate tablets which I take everytime I eat a high in carbs and/or sugar meal. I think that they help.
Hi Claire,
I always drink Green Tea with Lemon on my fast days, purely because it's the only hot drink I like without having to add milk and sugar and it helps stave off the hunger pangs.
As far as helping with weight loss though, I don't think it's made any difference at all to me, in fact it looks as though this week will be a better week for me weight loss wise and I've only had 1 cup of Green tea this week, as I ran out, so I would say, just drink it because you like it.
Unless you don't like the taste of green tea, I think it's better to drink it. If nothing else, it's a source of water for hydration and helps fill up you a little. I haven't tried the pills.
I've found drinking green tea has helped me a lot at so now every morning I start with a cup whether is a fast or feed day .I used to drink a lot of coffee but changing it for green tea my energy levels haven't dipped as much as I thought but I am sleeping better at night.
I drink green tea on my fast days, just because its my favourite without milk. My sister just recommended putting a slice of ginger in it, so I'm going to give to a go, sounds delicious. I really don't think there is any one food or drink that is a silver bullet for weight loss - everything you eat and drink has some influence.
My first cup of tea of the day is green tea and has been for years. I can't say that it has had an effect on my weight but I do keep very good health - one cold in a year.
Same here wildmissus, I always start the day with Green tea, feast or fast. I prefer the lemon variety and always add a slice of lemon and a few slithers of peeled root ginger. It tastes just as good cold, quite refreshing! Don't know if its helped my weight loss but its a lovely low calorie drink in any case.
Have tried to like green tea but I hate it...perhaps I should try the pills but I'm not clear whether they have the effects found for green tea extract used in clinical trials...need to check the methodology of the studies and evidence for benefits first!
Oh Caroline, finally someone who agrees with me! I absolutely hate green tea. I hate its taste, I hate its smell, I hate everything about it, LOL!
Green tea is supposedly also very good for your oral health. It prevents cavities and bad breath.
I detest green tea as a rule, tried to like it but failed. Then I got a sample of the green tea with lemon and found it much more palatable. Now I drink it because I enjoy it!
I like flavoured green tea, my favourite is Twinings tangerine and verbena, been drinking it for years. For black tea I like Chai with a splash of 1% milk, my favourite is the Tesco one, its stronger than the M&S and Twinings ones.
Here in the southern USA we often drink our tea iced. I keep a pitcher of fresh made iced green tea in the refrigerator at all times, as a refreshing no calorie beverage. I believe it has anti-oxident properties, from all I've read.

It's best to brew the iced tea fresh each day, keeping it chilled in a covered pitcher. I usually flavor my green tea with lemon or sometimes mint or a fruity herb tea. A little stevia added to a glass or cup lends a non-caloric sweetness. Those who don't care for the taste of green tea might try these flavorings. Also, it's suggested that one not brew green tea very long, to avoid bitterness. Personally, I think it's very refreshing and it seems to quiet my appetite. If nothing else, it's a great hydrator.

I don't believe supplements or pills are as effective as the real thing.
