Fast attack!!!
09 May 2013, 10:22
Morning peeps!

I have a question for you, asked from a friend...

Yesterday, someone mentioned here the Dukan's actual or real or something weight calculator so I went to the website and I did it. The results were pretty much as I expected and I'm very satisfied with that.

Anyway, under the calculator they told you in how many days you can reach your target by following the Dukan diet and there was a 2-days attack or lightning something.

I was curious what this was and I asked a friend who tried Dukan and she said that it was the first few days of the diet with only protein when you lose more weight than with usual diets. We started talking about diets, 5:2 etc and she asked me how would I feel doing a 2-days fast, around 500 calories, following the Dukan's menu. She said that I might lose more than usual and get off the plateau.

She even suggested a very feasible (for me and my weird stomach) menu with eggs, cottage cheese, surimi and turkey ham.

What do you think?

I could do it in a couple of weeks (I won't probably be able to do two days in a row next week and I've already ran out of days to fast this week (I'm fasting tomorrow and that's questionable since I might have to deal with a funeral soon).

Any thoughts???

TML, my son has been doing the Dukan diet for about 3 months now and has had good results. He has lost a good amount of weight and it was a big change for him in that his wife is Sardinian, and although they both live in London, eat a typical Sardinian diet. Pasta, pizza lots of fish and veg and fruit, bread, coffee (lots!) and cake. My son's enthusiasm for all this delicious food resulted in a steady weight gain. He is a surgeon with a wee baby girl and not a lot of time for exercise. He has drastically reduced carbs on the dukan, but he is getting a bit bored of it now. I am hoping to get him started on the 5.2 (when he sees my new slim figure I'm sure he will! ) Anyway , cutting down heavily on carbs does seem to work well, for the short term at least, so I would say go for it!

Just had a quick nose at the Dukan website - there are some nice different recipes on there, but they don't give calorie content, plus if you want any real information you have to sign up and pay!
If you have inside knowledge and want to try something for a fast result, then go for it!

Dhana, I couldn't give up carbs forever or even for a long time, unless I had a very serious health problem that required me to.

Lulabella, she gave me an example of a week's attack phase http://mydukandiet.com/dieting/example- ... phase.html and she told me that I could follow this menu for 2 days:
Breaky:
60 grms low fat cottage (50 cals)
2 slices of low fat turkey or chicken ham (30 cals)
Lunch:
Omelette made of 1 egg and two whites (99cals)
60 grms low fat cottage cheese (50 cals)
Dinner:
125 grms surimi crab (200 cals)
60 grms low fat cottage chees (50 cals)
That's a total of 479 calories and I have a few left for the milk in my tea and a couple of mugs of broth.

She said that since the official website suggested a two days attack phase, I could do both diets for just two days and probably see good results.

TML just to clarify, I would never suggest that anyone permanently give up carbs and the dukan diet reintroduces them in stages. You asked if it was a good idea for a short time and I said yes, I think so - not a permanent woe!

Yes, I know! I'm just saying that I couldn't do it, not even for a week. I did try it once and the headaches I got were horrible. I gave in on day 5, had a bowl of pasta and was A-OK in half an hour or less!!!

Hi, I did the dukan diet for quite some time, it's very efficient in terms of weight loss, but in the long run you start to get bored and miss carbs...

I would recommend a couple of attacks days to boost your metabolism if you are a little stuck on your weight, during those days you lose weigh quite fast, beacause it almost all water.

I see... Since you've done it, how does the sample menu for the two days sound to you? I think I'm gonna be a tad hungry but hopefully my stomach will agree with all the foods, even if not the quantity.

Perhaps if I tried it for two non-consecutive days and then for two days in a row?

I'm not a fan of high protein diets as the link between high protein, IGF1 and cancer is worrying. One of the precepts of the fast diet is that you reduce your protein intake to 0.8g per kg body weight per day as well as fasting. The lack of vegetables is also not good. Excess protein is converted to glucose by the body and so increases insulin levels, also not a good idea. Excess protein may also precipitate gout.

I'm not sure this would be a good idea really, and definitely not more than two in a row. Attack can really affect your insides - people report constipation and or cramping & diarrhoea when all carbs and fibre are excluded. But that tends to really kick in after 3 or 4 days though, and everyone is different.

So I have no real advice, I personally wouldn't exclude the fibre again... If you just do it for a short time you'll be okay with the gout :-)

The basic precept with Dukan is that things are not limited (mostly). and yes I have lost weight easily for 3 months, lost well, returned to nearly normal eating and maintained for 2.5 years with D but I was fed up of thinking of peas as a 'bad' veg ;-) so 5:2 is much more sustainable for ever....

If you want to do it I advise you to do it in feed days and not in fast days because the principle of the dukan diet is unlimited quantities.

What is surimi crab?

GOUT??? Does that still exist? I thought it went extinct...

Caroline, I'm not fan of high protein that's why I like the thought of doing it on a fast day (two of them, to be more precise).

Iva, I can't eat too much of that stuff to be honest.

Marlene, it's imitation of grab made of fish. It's very popular among the European followers of Dukan.

Gout definitely still exists, Thalia - very, very nasty and painful I understand, worse than arthritis.

What I don't understand is, why would you eat imitation crab when you can eat real crab? Is it to do with the calories? Is it the same as in the crab sticks you can buy in supermarkets? I've never tried it - but I remember my sister who lives in Florida used it with shrimp in a seafood cocktail - I thought it was chunks of rhubarb lol!

Are you going to do this diet then?
