General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Switching to 4:3 as of today!

Today i decided to add Fridays to my Tuesday and Sundays for fast day. With 3 weeks in a row of Thursday, Friday, Saturday the weight creeping up by 100g or so a day.. I figured i'd show that scale a thing or twp and make it a fast day on Friday's as well.

Means that there willl be only 2 days every week where I have two consecutive feast days.

And.. no longer will I dread Sunday weigh-ins!

Maybe when I reach my goal weight which is another 8 kg i will revert to 5:2. I wouuldnt want to weigh less than my goal weight so it 5:2 would be my maintenance mode.

I did the same thing. I started 5:2 six weeks ago and found early on my feast days were undoing the benefits of the fast days. I usually fast Mondays and Wednesdays, and often found by the weekend, I had fallen off the diet bandwagon and back to my old ways.

As such, I shifted after two weeks to 4:3 and things appear to be moving in the right direction again :)

Good luck with it :) I found that 4:3 seems to be a bit more balanced for me especially as/when I was over eating on my non fast days.
Even I have started thinking of 4:3, as there's a lot to reduce..but can anyone tell me is it mandatory that the calorie intake must be less than 500, because sometimes on my fast day I consume around 550-600???.But really happy that i have reduced around 3kg within 2 weeks...
Hello drbin. The calorie recommendation is really quite arbitrary! Dr M came up with 500/600 as a quarter of the average intake of the average female and male. If your TDEE is low, then a quarter will be less.
3kg in 2 weeks is very good, as the average loss is 1lb a week. I would give it more time before embarking on 4:3 and don;t worry too much if you go over the 500 cals. If the weight loss sticks for a month, then maybe look at what you're doing and make adjustments. For now though, try not to stress about it and enjoy the new way of eating :)
I haven't managed to switch from 4:3 to 5:2. Part of it is psychological, but also 3 days without a fast is trouble for me. I might try 2 non-fast days, 1 fast day next to ease myself off 4:3. I'm not in a big hurry, though.

Good luck with 4:3, I find I really enjoy fast days now and I'm almost dissapointed when my last fast of the week comes around! :D
Just started on 4:3 this week. Thought I had to do something, as being on 5:2 for two months, weight loss stopped after the first month. I unfortunately took the feast days too far and feel I really need to reign myself in now. I am trying Mon, Wed, and Friday. Hope this will sort me out. Need to lose 4-5 stone so cannot afford to waste any more time. Good luck to everyone else on the diet.

this is what I do. 2 days of normal eating. 1 day of repair work! Im also trying the 8 hour window but the day after a fast day Im quite hungry early on so have had breakfast. x

I did the same i think.. took feast days too far.
I have been happy with 5:2 but starting to slow down so am moving toward a third "half day" fast. My typical fast days are Mon & Wed, and now I am trying to add a Friday "half-er" where I fast through the day, (breakfast and lunch) and then evening meal is not restricted to 500 calories... so basically eat what I want.

Nice way to do it. maybe we call that

4.5:2.5 diet (kidding)
