General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Hi all

please let me know if this isnt the best place for this

I'm on my 5th week of 5:2. First 3 weeks went well, weighed in thursday just gone at 9stone8 (60.9kgs) from starting at 10stone ish (63.5kg. Last week was a bit of a disaster, but back on it this week. Aiming for 9 stone. My BMI is currently 23.5, I'm 5 foot 3.4 (the point 4 is important :p )

My waist is shrinking, but I feel my arms are a not. I'm sure I've got abnormally chubby arms, for my size!

Would anyone be willing to measure their arms on the fattest part, and their waist, and post for me to compare the ratio?

Feel free to wait btw until I post my measurements - I've mislaid my tape!! but I wanted to post the topic whilst its on my brain

I will update later with measurements.

Although I am a size 8 - 10 on top, in shirts or blazers I have to buy size 12, as they are never comfy on my upper arms.
hello emilymeg
I'm 1.52m and currently about 65-66kg.
My waist is 79-81cms and my arms are 29-31cms.
Sorry it's a bit vague but with fluctuations it's probably best to give you a range.
My waist has shrunk quite a bit but those wobbly dinner lady arms are being very stubborn. Despite weight training and lots of planks...
Just haven't been able to get tops in this heathen country asa they are all too tight on the arm. Thought it was only me...
I have the same problem with you but I can't help you with measuring. I think that tank/tube tops or elbow sleeved t-shirts are better than those who stop mid-arm.
Fat accumulation on the underside of your upper arms can be due to falling testosterone levels, as women reach middle age.

So what do we do about that?! (For those of us who are in this age group!)
My waist is 28" and my upper arms are 11". Makes the ratio about 39%, i think - not sure how that compares with you. I think my arms may have finally shrunk this week after 3 months+ of 5:2 (sadly didn't measure at beginning, just that they suddenly look and feel better). Waist shrunk a good few weeks ago so if you hang in there, will go off everywhere eventually! I too have chunky arms and struggle with some tops.
Fab. Thanks guys. Glad to know not just me

I get married in 3 months and 4 days (totally not counting down....) and am in a sleeveless dress

I've always had huge arms, I remember struggling with my school summer dresses because they were far too tight in the arms...and that was when I was 12 (and the rest of me was slim BTW)!!! My arms have definitely shrunk since 5:2ing, so there is hope of a reduction but I doubt I will ever have slim arms seeing as I never have!
Fairly sure dhana has resurrected the callanetics arm exercise with good results- she may be along later.
Might be worth a you tube search for it?
Yes, I'm still doing them! Stretch first by standing feet apart and swing arms up over your head and touch finger together, stretch up, up an inch higher than you think you can go , swing arms down and repeat aa couple of times. now stand relaxed and put arms out to sides at shoulder level, palms down and swing arms back and turn palms to face backwards and try to touch palms together in little movements. keep shoulders down and relaxed and pelvis tilted slightly forward. And if you do ever manage to touch your palms together will you please let me know? You're either a contortionist, a baboon or maybe I'm just doing it wrong!
Edit to add you should "clap" palms together 100 times. ...teeny, tiny movements!
I have been doing these exercises for a while - I don't have a tape measure, but my arms are much firmer and I have more upper arm strength

I'm definitely going to do some more weight related arm exercises etc.

I am 25" waist, 29" round my bellybutton, 12" upper arm
I have relatively thin arms, though they were not especially toned. Since doing the 30 day shred (and I'm only on day 11) they have got much much firmer though!
Also just wanted to say that my problem area is my thighs/bum, I'm a classic pear shape, which of course means that this is the last place I will lose weight from, I guess that's the same no matter what your problem area is, it's always the last place you lose fat from??

I have used this exercise many years ago with great results. Thanks for the reminder.
I'm the same, although I've lost about an inch off my arms and toned them up (I have muscles thanks to the 30 Day Shred!) I still feel like they're too big and a little flabby :(

But I still have over half a stone until my goal weight, so hopefully the weight will start coming off my arms soon. I'm 5'3 with a 28" natural waist and 11" arms at the moment.
I'll have to crack on with some exercises

Frustrating, a bit, I think all the weight (5 / 6 lbs) I've lost has only come off my waist...which is good...but I would like less chubby arms, and less chunky thighs. will keep going
