Well, you were nearly there! And I can't resist pizza when I've got a hangover either!
The 17 hour fast will have done you good anyway!
Don't worry it is only one day Sam, I picked Tuesday as my fast day this week as I knew I'd have a bit of a hangover on Monday.
Theres always tomorrow
Theres always tomorrow
I also failed, but not because of a hangover(!).
I had managed happily on hot drinks all day and was looking forward to my stuffed peppers, which are cooked in the (electric) oven. As it was getting towards dinner time, we had some really strong gusts of wind followed by the almost inevitable, for here, power cut. The last one we had lasted overnight, so I was in a bit of a dilemma as to whether to wait it out and hope it came back on or to resort to tinned cassoulet from the storecupboard which I could heat on the basement gaz stove by candle/torch light. I had just decided on that (and had a glass of Merlot as hot drinks were difficult!) when the power came back. The damage was done by then, but I did still remain within my TDEE -20%, and had not eaten for about 22 hrs.
I do feel a bit bad as it is the first fast day I have given up on, but am going for it today. It has just stopped raining and the sun is trying to break through, so fingers crossed for no more power interruptions!

Funny how you feel guilty but I was the same but suppose that's the best thing with this WOE!! Better luck today
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. Let's all stop beating ourselves up or we will indeed fail! You didn't fail, you succeeded, because you went over 16 hrs of fasting, which your body will love you for and, you didn't consume the amount of calories your would have normally had - so there, you're a SUCCESS!
Just because the scales might like you much this week, your internals will from having that 16+ hr break from food - onwards and upwards troops - we CAN do this!!
Good luck

Yes Ma'am! Well said Sunshine - you are of course right, although maybe onwards and downwards?!
As Sunshine24 said, you didn't fail.
Sometimes for a variety of reasons we aren't going to achieve our goals, but this isn't failure. As long as you managed some of it, then it will be fine.
The other thing, is that this is meant to be a way of life, if you have a day where you are really struggling, then bin it. Start tomorrow, or even better, have a day off and do it the day after.
One of the worst things you can do is to keep thinking you failed and then trying again the next day, then thinking you have failed again, and trying again the next day and on and on.
This just means you have a series of miserable days where you haven't eaten properly.
Take a step back, take a breather, have a Pizza or whatever, get yourself together and start afresh, refreshed.
This is a way of life, to help you live your life, don't be a slave to it.

What Sunshine says
I'm an amateur astronomer and was up last night till 5am enjoying the first clear skies in months. I didn't eat my usual 2 packets of Jaffa Cakes (to keep me warm, honest) but todays fasting day will be rescheduled; there's no way I could fast today after having about an hours sleep but I'm not worried/guilty. There's always another day... no need for guilt!

Second fast in on my first week of 5:2 and I failed miserably, not going to stress about it and just reschedule to a day over the weekend that suits me better, no point beating myself up about it
Agree with what you all say... I soon got over it & was still under my TDEE anyway so it was all good.. Fasting today & looking forward to my small fish & chip supper tomorrow eve yum
