Fasting tomorrow
06 Feb 2013, 14:51
It'll be my 4th fast day tomorrow and I'm already dreading it. Mondays fast day was tough and by the time I ate I was ready to kill someone! Today I've felt hungry all day and I'm worried I will feel the same tomorrow. I usually have breakfast on a fast day but wondering whether to have a small soup at lunch instead. Any thoughts or tips? Thanks :)

Don't eat breakfast or lunch is my tip. Once you start eating the hunger kicks in with a vengeance!

Breadandwine had an excellent explanation for this which is that once we eat something after not having eaten for a while, our body tries to get us to eat enough to fill up our energy stores before the food runs out. If we don't eat, the body 'assumes' there's no food to be had so only sends out the occasional hunger pang, just in case!

Thanks. I might give it a try and see. If I get desperate then I can have something small to get me through.

Hi catgirl70

This was me when I first started this way of eating. I'm over 4 weeks in now and feeling very different; great in fact.

If you think this way of eating is for you then stick at it and it will get easier. I've lost over 14lbs now without really trying; what's two days a week? It's a lifestyle and not a diet and once you acknowledge this to yourself you realise that you can do it.

As to whether you should eat breakfast, why don't you experiment and see what does work for you? We're all different and I find that if I eat at 12pm and then at 6pm I'm fine and cope really well.

Good luck and I hope tomorrow is easier for you.

If you are really hungry today, eat.

I do have lunch but I've always only ever had a small lunch and have never really liked breakfast, so it's not much different for me. In the first few weeks, I had a breadstick (22 cals) if I was on the verge of murdering someone but that doesn't seem to as much of an issue now.

It's better to get through the first few weeks imperfectly than not at all.

Hi all, I am also fasting tomorrow. On my first fast I had breakfast and dinner but the gap in between seemed too long! On my next couple (tomorrow is only my 4th fast) I had no breakfast, just plenty of black coffee to get me through the morning, then a cuppa soup for lunch, only about 50 calories but seemed to be enough to get me through to dinner. I think you just need to experiment the first times and see what is best to get you through the day!

I'll be fasting tomorrow too and madly, I'm quite looking forward to it. I've had a delicious chicken dinner tonight plus rhubarb crumble and a glass of wine. But I do want to lose some more weight and get the health benefits so it will be another step forward tomorrow. Let's support each other and we will make it through!

I will be fasting tomorrow and like you Gillb am looking forward to it. I see it as a life style choice not a diet. I like the control that fast days give me and the fact that I dont think about food on these days is liberating

Hi catgirl, it'll be my 4th fast day tomorrow too and I'm hungry already!! You can do it, it's only for a day and there's so much inspiration from others on here!! I've found that if I don't eat breakfast I'm actually not that hungry, it's once you start eating that the munchies kick in! Good luck and be strong!

I'm fasting tomorrow too and I'm feeling quite nervous about it! I've done a few fast days here and there but this will be the first time that I've done two in a week. I was ultra grumpy yesterday which was a fast day, but still a bit of a moan most of today too so perhaps that was hormonal rather than to do with fasting!

Happy fasting tomorrow!

Part of the interest of the fast is experimenting. You have 500 (or 600) cals to play with but what, when seems to be pretty critical. For the first week and a bit I had a morning breakfast, skipped lunch and had dinner but a couple of times I've tried skipping breakfast and having most of my cals in the evening. The trouble with that, I've found is that I spend a lot of time thinking about food and waiting for 6 o'clock and not getting on with things but on the plus side having all the calories in one meal is quite satisfying. But if you have breakfast I recommend having eggs. Last week I had half a grapefruit and and egg and it was surprisingly for breakfast and that kept me happy for most of the day.
Good luck!

Hi I'm fasting tomorrow too :-( I was having a nice evening until suddenly at 10pm I remembered tomorrow's my fasting day!!! Got myself into a tizz about it now and can't sleep!! Wierd how the brain works, as I was not hungry at all earlier, but now my tummy is rumbling and I 'feel' hungry! Of course, I'm not cause I've had a normal feeding day today, with treats galore thrown in. I've had approx 1800 cals in total, which is what I should be for my age/height. I'll be on my 6th fasting day (3rd wk). Oh well, better go and get some shut eye and try to ignore this silly hungry feeling!! Night all xx

Hi, I was sorry to read you're dreading tomorrow's fast day. :( I found when I was so hungry that a cup of oxo did the trick. I know it doesn't sound much, and at 7 calories it isn't but it did satisfy the craving for something savoury. I have never had any real problems with ongoing hunger, but I know from other's post's that this does happen, but stick with it. Your body is getting used to something entirely new. It might not seem like it now, but you will actually begin to look forward to fast days.
