I know I will be very slightly over my 500c on my 2nd fast day ( today) I had planned around 300 calls for dinner.. much needed, should I write this off as a fast day?

If you're only a little over I wouldn't worry about it
As it says in the book, an extra 20-30 cals or so isn't going to mess it up. In fact I fasted on about 600 cals over Christmas and still lost a little weight (considering the massive overeating on the other days that's great - I'm sure had I not indulged so much I would have lost more).
So, I guess it depends on how much over 500 cals? And it's only your 2nd day so don't worry too much - there's still plenty of fasts ahead of you!

No I am sure it's only around 40, I am finding this quite easy and the fasting is no trouble even on busy days. I am concerned about my motivation if I'm going to be one of the people who don't loose weight, all though I fully accept the health stuff remaining fat would be bad, ( sorry about the moan:)
Go for it, the day is nearly over anyway and that will be one fast day under your belt. Good luck
I'd only call it a failed fast day if I'd gone over, oh I don't know, 1000 cals? I'm often a bit over and then again I'm often a bit under too so it evens out in the end!
