Weight Loss or Inch Loss?
07 Feb 2013, 08:02
My daughter asked me yesterday what is most important to me, losing weight or losing inches? After a moments thought I felt that both are equally as important, but if I had to choose, then losing inches was my priority. I do a lot of exercise a week (at least 5-6 days) including running, gym and classes so I'm probably toning up my muscles while losing fat.

What does anyone else think?

I like that the Progress Tracker records waist measurements, I also record bust, hips, thighs and my calf too :D It's great to record a loss of inches, even if it's only 1/2"

Although the current gold standard is BMI, they say that for health it's the waist measurement that is most important, so I think inches!

I'd go for inches. I'm more bothered by the way I look than I am by my BF%, I think.

Inches for me too, I keep a record of measurements then on days when I weigh myself and little seems to have gone I can console myself with inches lost! Overall so far I've lost between 1-2 inches all over my body. Hope I can keep going!

Inches really but weight is easier to ensure consistent scoring on... I always wonder whether I've measured in quite the same place as last time and oddly I find different tape measures are more flexible and give different results LOL. I will leave you to guess which one I go for...

Inch loss, BMI/weight doesn't factor in muscle mass. Ideally you should be building muscle to help with all sorts of health issues - including your ability to metabolise better, so gaining muscle/weight can be a good thing if you're losing inches.

Definitely inches, that's what I want to lose, but like others I tend to get measurements that vary wildly (last time I dieted, they went up every single time, even though I was losing weight), so I tend to use weight to track my progress, and know I'm losing inches when I fit better into my clothes!

Inch loss for me. Mainly so I don't have muffin tops over my jeans, but I'm exercising like a demon at the moment, so I am attributing static weight to muscle toning and not fat loss.

Inch loss for me. After 2 weeks and 4 fasts I have only lost 2lb and nothing off my inches, but my clothes say different and I can see it too. I'm happy with that

Inches for me, or rather cms. Although I am finding the scales addictive, and am considering chucking them out so I lose the obsession of jumping on everyday (in spite of trying not to).
