Yes, take a look in Nerdy Stuff, one of the sub-fora. You'll find enough reading there!

summary of papers - please let me know if there are any to add.

Only the breast cancer work by Harvie is on there as a 5:2 study and that's with two consecutive days.

No, there has been no research on 'our' 5:2 as practised by Dr M and most of us here. There is research on a similar-ish type of intermittent fasting called the 2 day diet which involves 'fasting' (with 650 cals) on 2 consecutive days and then eating a healthy Mediterranean diet for the other 5 days. The major research area is on alternate day fasting (ADF) where the 'fast' days involve a single 500 cal meal at midday and these are alternated with feed days where the participants could eat whatever they liked.

And to turn that on its head,
see if you can find any medical research in support of
SW
WW
Lighterlife
Dukan
Atkins
because its all rather lacking!

At least 5:2 developed from ADF which developed from fasting studies in the scientific literature ....

There is (now) quite a lot of research on low carb diets and one particular study which I've reported on in nerdy stuff which compared low carb, low fat and Mediterranean diets. The Mediterranean diet came out best, then low carb, finally low fat. This was in terms of weight loss, blood chemistry and blood pressure.

http://www.dietdoctor.com/science has a list of RCTs that look at low carb diets vs others. I have read a clinical trial report of Weight Watchers too.
