First fast day ..... typical I woke at 0530 when there was no need to, so had a long soak in the tub to distract myself. Now I am sitting here wondering if it's a good idea to have breakfast or not? I am famished, but also feel that (possibly) if I eat now it will kick start my day and I will feel hungry again in a couple of hours ..... what does everyone else think/do on fast days?

No breakfast for me...saving it all till dinner. It's just possible that there are more health benefits the longer you go without food on a fast day.
I don't eat breakfast. Not just on fast days, but generally (I reckon I eat breakfast less than a dozen times a year). If I do eat breakfast, I find I am starving by mid-morning.
No, I generally don't eat breakfast, except on holiday, I'm the same as you Ember, I get more hungry if I eat early. I will have a cup a soup at lunch and salmon and roasted veg for dinner today, plus lots of herbal teas / water.
Breaky on a fast day would not be a good idea for me, I normally have soup noon ish then dinner 6.30, but am going to try the one meal (dinner) next fast day.
I agree Ember .... breakfast by 0730, biscuits or crisps by 1030 ...... so have skipped breakfast entirely today. Drinking lots of water. Going to have homemade carrot and coriander soup for lunch at 62 calories for a decent size bowl, then a lean mince beef and veg hotpot (homemade) for later at 294 calories leaving 139 for a couple of extras - most probably some silverskin onions as 50g is only 15 calories ...... all goin on My Fitness Pal to ensure it's counted correctly!
A whole pot of Pukka green chai tea fills me, now having a black coffee for umph!
Everyone is different, what works for some won't work for others and vice-versa.
After trial and error, I have found that it's better for me to have breakfast and tea and skip dinner. This gives me about 12 hours between each meal which is fairly easy to do after a few weeks.
