Probably you can just throw them in. I would rinse them under very hot water, then put them in. In Australia they are readily available in many forms, some noodles are thicker than others and require more heat. There is a block for m here with seaweed through it I should try! If you want to try another form of substitute carbs, steamed (or microwaved) cauliflower then blended make s a very good potatoe mash. I always add salt and sour cream, or cream but thats up to you.

Well i decided to have these for lunch today, i rinsed them in hot water, the smell really isnt that bad. i then put them into two tins of weightwatchers soup and brought to the boil. madr a huge meal.only ate half, added abit of chilli and curry powder the whole thing came to about 118kcals all together. The noodles were actually alright. like thick rice noodles.Very glad i got them . recipe ideas much appreciated
Hi Debs,Coles have a more western version called slim pasta. Otherwise go look in a good asian supermarket. Good luck asking staff. They tend to look cross eyed when I ask for shirataki or konjac noodles! You can but try. I have paid anything from 60 cents to 2.00 for quite a large pack. They will be (should be) in the japanese section either refridgerated or not. Or look in the noodle section.
I used the Slim Noodles (bought from H&B in their offer at the moment) - still quite expensive for 'noodles', but then, we do save quite a bit by fasting anyway don't we, so not the end of the world.
I followed directions to the letter (rinse in warm / hot water) and boiled for 4 minutes before adding to my spicy Turkey and Crunchy Chinese Veg stir Fry. They were fine, but me and the OH both thought the texture was more like a vegetable - not unpleasant though, and will bulk out the stir fry. I have been missing the noodles in in since starting my fasting.

I had the fettuccine ones last night, and I rinsed then dry fried them. They were OK - I don't think I could manage to eat the whole packet in one go, though, they do take a bit of chewing!
I love Shiratake noodles. People either lover them or hate them!
Here is how I cook them: rinse and drain well. Yes, they stink like fish/seaweed, but that doesn't bother me. Dump in pot, cover with water and boil a good 2 minutes. This removes the smell and "rubbery" texture some complain of. Drain well. Now here is the trick: dump back into pot and "dry fry" over medium heat. The noodles release a lot of water AFTER cooking, and if you don't dry fry until the noodles are good and dry, your sauces will get watery. Then I dump onto a plate and add sauce.
Do the substitute for real pasta? Well on a fast day they do! They are extremely filling. But to be honest, on my feed days I treat myself to real pasta with sauce. But for a fast day, they can't be beat, because the high fiber really keeps me full.

Bought 200g of these in a small Asian supermarket in Reading, just round the corner from H & B. Then went and got buy 1 get 1 half-price from H & B. The Asian spmkt ones came in a pack of 2 small packs so you can leave 1 half sealed and just use half, also they are tied up in little portions so it is easier if you want to say have half at lunchtime and half in the evening. £ 1.20 in spmkt
so will be cheaper after H & B offer finishes! Haven't tried dry-frying them,I have had them in soup and in a hot Thai style salad with soy sauce, garlic, ginger etc. Not bad at all.

I have put a stir fry chicken noodle (made with these noodles) in the recipe section, it was very yummy
Any low cal recommendations for a sauce to go with these? I've bought some but am conscious that I may want to mask the taste! Will soy sauce, garlic and ginger be enough?

I just bought these 'noodles' today. My local grocery had them in the tofu section. I wasn't sure what to do with them, but sparklevergreen's recipe looks great!
Say that I want to have half a pack for lunch and half for dinner, what do I do if I don't use the entire pack? Do I store them in the fridge? Freezer?
I tried freezing them once, in a spicy sauce, and they were horrible afterwards. If I'm going to have them, I'll split one packet over 2 fast days in a week, and just keep in the fridge on the days in between.
For good strong tasting sauces, I love Tom Yum paste.
