Night time hunger
12 Mar 2013, 08:08
I've been on the 5:2 diet for 4 weeks now, and am basically loving it: hunger under control during the day, initial headaches gone, more energy on fast days etc BUT, and it's a big 'but' - I can't sleep after a fast day. partly because my mind's going but partly because I feel so hollow inside. I don't want to give up, but sacrificing two nights' sleep (and feeling dreadful on the days that follow) is too much. HELP!

Eat something. I have a glass or milk, cocoa without sugar or if really very hungry a banana. Some people have the low-cal instant chocolate. I'm finding as time goes on, I'm less hungry late evening so it does get better.

As you say, it's good to lose weight but you need your sleep.

Same problem here occasionally. I find if my evening meal had more that just a little carbohydrate, it leaves me hungry. Massive plate of veggies and a small portion of meat/fish works best plus a small glass of milk at bedtime. Most fast nights are ok now but at first were dreadful. Generally sleeping better on feed days though so all in all an improvement!

I've recently been having the problem that my dinner on fast day doesn't really fill me up, so I go to bed hungry. It hasn't stopped me from sleeping so it's not that bid a deal. I guess I should save some calories for something later in the evening. I don't do milk, but I guess I can try miso soup...

I didn't have this problem at all for the first 12 fasts or so. I'm kind of surprised to be having it now. :(

I don't do milk either, but have found that a small bowl of plain soya yoghurt before bed is absolutely perfect & now have no problem with night time hunger any more. I've also shifted my meals . On fast days i have no breakfast, a vegetable soup for lunch and then a light cooked meal at night, followed by the soya yoghurt at bed time. The weight doesn't come off quite as quickly, but because I'm sleeping and not hungry, even on fast days, and I'm still losing weight steadily I'm more than happy :)
