Now on week 4 of fasting. Been doing 4:3 for the last 3 weeks with a view to doing 5:2 after I reach my 1st goal. Anyway, I've always had bad skin. Although it has improved since my teenage years I am still prone to acne and still get a a spotty back! Horrible I know! Well anyway, I just noticed this morning that my skin is suddenly looking a lot clearer! Not only on my face, but my back as well. Now I'm wondering if this is just a coincidence or it is actually due to the diet? I know I am drinking a lot more water, even on non fast days I am now choosing to drink water a lot more than my usual diet coke. Maybe also to do with me eating less junk food? Has anyone else experienced this? Or is it just me? If it is down to the diet I wish I'd done this years ago!

Me too! My skin and nails are much better. My nails usualy split at the quick but they are growing in much stronger now. I must admit I still don't drink much plain water - mostly black coffee and the odd diet coke here and there. For me I think it's because I have ditched a lot of the junk food I was eating. I'm eating lots of fish and fresh vegetables now and no ready meals at all. Long may it continue!
I've always been prone to very dry/flaky skin in the 'triangle' area of my face, plus small patches of eczema - not seen hide nor hair of eczema for months and the dry skin, although still slightly dry, is not anywhere near as bad as it was - anothe plus point to this wonderful WOL me thinks!
My skin has been slightly worse since starting 5:2, but it also coincides with new moisturizer. I'm blaming that, and we'll see what happens next week when I go back to the old one
My skin has been better but I don't know if it's purely because of 5:2 or other factors. I've been exercising more, changed moisturiser, eating more fat (hopefully healthy fat eg coconut oil in my porridge), all part of my body rehab! My fine lines and crows feet have lessened and my skin seems brighter.
I thought I'd bump this old thread as I have quite a few unprompted comments on my skin in the last week. I have been eating more coconut oil, so maybe this has something to do with it, but wondered if others have noticed a change in the condition of their hair, skin or nails?
After almost 6 months my usually beautiful skin has become grey, dull and spots appear hear and there. My nails are brittle and splits easily so my answer is NO. This might not have to do with 5:2 but something is apparently missing or going on.....
Very much so for my skin. I think though this is mainly down to me drinking greater quantities of water, sadly my nails are still awful and prone to breaking.
Come to think of it my skin is better! I was quite prone to spots before 5:2 (annoyingly started as an adult and not as a teenager!) And my skin has been pretty clear bar the odd spot...which is fab!
I suffered from roseacea on my nose - slight but never the less there, every week I would say, just nasty red spots, started with this about 4 years ago. I thought it was spots but doctor diagnosed roseacea. I had medication from the doctor to treat this. Started 5.:2 in January and up til March got less and less and now I have not had one out break since I dont know when !!! Coincidence or the 5:2 ? I'm plumping for 5:2 myself.
Hair, skin and nails totally happy. I think it is a combination of water, fruit and veg and coconut oil.
Coconut oil on the face, in fact all over has improved my skin no end, or it could be 5:2.
Hmmmm. I'm older and after losing almost 20 pounds, my skin is more wrinkly. :>) Wonder if there's any chance of it toning up to hold less fat in!
I've not noticed any improvement so far in my skin and my nails are worse. Probably not having as much calcium now or something.
My skin is pretty good normally, and when I low carbed a few years back it fairly glowed (in a good way, not in a "glow stick" way). Not sure if that was down to the lack of carbs or the introduction of more water. I'm finding the same with 5:2. Skin is looking extra healthy, but I am taking in less carbs and more water... again.
I'm up all night piddling.
