Urine problems
24 Mar 2013, 10:11
Hi all, has anyone suffered with urine urgency since starting the fast diet? My problem may not be related to this diet as I have recently had spinal nerve surgery but this problem only started a couple of weeks ago. I have the urge to wee constantly and throughout the night, no pain, just throbbing in the pelvic area. It is driving me mad and I am worried about onset of incontenance because of it. I have been following the diet for 5 weeks and love it and have lost half a stone already. My partner is following it too but has not had any urine problems. I'm jut trying to eliminate causes before seeing my doctor.

Hi there. Sorry to hear you're having these problems. I don't think it is connected to the diet. Some increased volume maybe but not the urgency. It does sound like a consequence of the surgery. The throbbing sounds like it is a nerve problem. How long ago was the surgery?

I probably have a few more toilet trips since starting 5:2, but that's only really on my fasting days because of the sheer volume of water I drink!

I wouldn't think it's 5:2 causing it, but you should probably mention the diet to your doctor when you see him/her just in case.

My husband had mega urine problems after similar surgery -see your doctor or specialist-it certainly wasn't caused by diet-unless you can blame extra cakes and biscuits.

Hi, thanks for your replies. Good to hear it won't be the diet as I am enjoying my new way of eating/dieting and didn't want to have to give it up. I had my surgery 8 weeks ago but didn't have this problem before it. I have always suffered infections but this is different. It's worrying me immensely. I'm only 35 and been through a lot health wise lately and really can't face anymore. Been looking on the Internet at possible diagnoses and all of them are negative and not curable, scared

I get throbbing, not pain, in the pelvic area and increased urgency whenever I have a urine infection (as opposed to Thrush), so it may be as simple as that. Don't worry, but get yourself along to your GP as soon as possible. If it is an infection you will need to get onto antibiotics a.s.a.p. and if it is somerthing more serious, then you need to know that too.

Hope it goes OK for you.

8 weeks after surgery is not that long really...it could be to do with the healing process. Was it spinal fusion you had done? It takes at least three months for the fusion to complete. The inflammation during the healing process could be causing nerve irritation resulting in overactive bladder.

I would go to the doc asap for a check up.

Thanks everyone, I will be visiting my doctor tomorrow to get this checked out. Hopefully it is just part of the healing process and will settle down. Fingers crossed.

When you are fasting, you pass more urine because the body is using the glycogen that is stored in the liver. The body uses water to metabolize this glycogen and the water is passed through the kidneys.
