I agree with this. But I just don't want a lot of that stuff now.
But after a fast even a bowl of lite soup (usually add veggies) tastes sooooo good! :grin:
Surely, we eat less and that is good. But it's because of this -I find- that any food (portion size or treat size) tastes better than it ever did!
I'm much more relaxed around food now. My taste buds must be changing cause though my eyes still want that big piece of coffee & walnut cake once I get it after a couple of bites I find myself thinking "not really enjoying this", weird or what?!
Yesterday was my 3rd fast day and found it harder than the first two. I think it was because the family was at home and eating as normal and I could only join in the evening meal. I went over my 500 and hoping Thursday will be easier being away from home.

I have stopped craving chocolate and had a nibble today on a bit of Easter egg and didn't enjoy it, whereas in the past I would have ate the whole lot. When easting out over the Easter break my portion size has lessen and I have got fuller quicker.

I think the main difference is that even on a feed day, despite not counting calories on those days (see other thread), I find myself asking whether I actually NEED that 'snack' or extra piece of chocolate or whatever. You know how little you can survive on on a fast day, so it makes me question my choices more. I tend to go out for a lot of meals and drink wine on feed days, but on days that I am not 'indulging' I tend to stick to a small lunch and a normal dinner.And if it's an eating out day I usually only have the dinner and maybe one small snack before dinner. It does make you reassess your choices and needs...
Like everyone else, portion sizes have shrunk and I think about what I eat. Luckily, I haven't got a sweet tooth, so choc, cake etc don't feature in the house at all.
I do however, love cheese! I always keep a pack of Cathedral City selections now. I know that one of the is 50 cals. I also eat a lot more veggie food and, because I do love spices, I add those for flavour.
Summer bbqs were always protein overload; if we get a summer, there'll be veggie skewers, too!
Yes definitely. I was always a secret binger, buying a big bar of chocolate and wolfing it down. I no longer do that - it would make me feel very ill now. I did do it a few times in the first few weeks on non-fast days and it did make me feel sick.

Portion sizes are smaller and my desire for sugar has certainly decreased. I don't feel the need to graze all day and am much more likely to pick a healthy 'whole food' to snack on rather than junk.

I've always loved food, and my job involves food, so I can't get away from thinking about it, but I'm now in a much better place mentally and food no longer controls me. I'm always going to enjoy it, and appreciate every mouthful, however I'm much more mindful (in the zen sense) of what passes my lips.
I'm only 3 weeks into this way of eating, but have been noticing my habits changing.
Yesterday morning I worked from home, I work in the kitchen so usually I keep binging steadily throughout the day - couple of bits of bread or something every time I'm bored, complete something difficult, have to do something difficult and so on. Not proud of it but is just what I would do.
Yesterday I had an apple, a coffee, a hot cross bun then nothing until 1.30. I was meeting my OH at the shops so had one slice of bread (we tend to fall out if I'm hungry).
Bought a sandwich and could only finish half of it, then nothing till tea time :).
I think the best thing is I've realised its ok to wait till I'm hungry to eat, I
in fact I enjoy food far more :)
Am loving this way of eating as its giving me a far better relationship with food :).
Absolutely! In a good way. :grin: I rarely snack as I know I can wait until my next meal. As I have suffered the blood sugar lows of hypoglycaemia if I have a "hypo" I have a healthy option to get my blood sugar back to normal with out having to include white sugar or lollies etc.

My portions are smaller and if I stuff up and take and finish an old larger serving size I don't beat myself up over it I just learn from the experience and slowly I am learning to eat less.

I love cakes and chocolate but I find that they can become too much and too sweet very quickly so I tend to eat less of them i.e. a small piece of cake or chocolate is enough now I don't have to inhale the whole block/slice of cake anymore.

I now feel more in control of my food choices and if I make a mistake and go back to old food habits it is ok b/c Each time I learn from the experience. After all, I have the rest of my life to get this right so it is ok to take baby steps to get there.
I also have a much reduced appetite now. When OH & I popped into our favourite bistro for our usual lunch of soup & bread I couldn't manage to eat all my bread & even went without my usual treat of creme caramel because I felt very full. I am no longer uncomfortable feeling hungry & can just ignore it & find I am choosing more savoury food. I also recently tried to drink a low cal hot chocolate that I had previously enjoyed & found I now dislike the too sweet artificial taste. I am also much more selective about what I choose to eat & have thrown out any low calorie food preferring smaller portions of "ordinary" food. Altogether quite a change for me. :smile:
I drink unsweetened cocoa now at night and it's lovely. Can really taste the chocolate.
Definitely! Like other people have mentioned, I tend to have smaller portions now.
But some 'weird' and unintentional changes have been that I no longer have milk in my diet any more; before starting this WOE, I used to have cereal for breakfast every morning (part of a routine, rather than actually being hungry) and I used to drink a lot of tea/coffee with milk. Since fasting, I don't tend to have breakfast any more and I've also completely switched to black tea/coffee which is much nicer in my opinion :)
I've also started eating a lot more nuts (perhaps this is how my body is replacing the calcium lost from the lack of milk in my diet?) and I don't seem to crave chocolate, biscuits, etc as much - although I still enjoy eating them :)
I'm also more aware of what I'm eating too - for example, on a fast day I once had a sandwich for lunch and by 5pm I was starving, so I now know how bread affects my blood sugar levels (?), so if possible, I try to eat low GI foods whenever possible :)
I'm definitely eating differently now, hardly snacking at all and wanting healthier foods. I still really enjoy my chocolate and wine and the occasional cake but they have definitely become treats that I only have occasionally, and I don't seem to crave them. Who knew that was possible! :like:
I too am finding it easier to control portion sizes and mostly crave a healthier diet. I've always loved fruit and on fast days still include it in my calories, and I think about being able to eat fruit freely on feast days- not allowed on many diets.
A couple of times when I've had a rich meal out I've felt quite nauseated afterwards- not necessarily a good thing! I'm willing to forgo the fancy meals though to lose weight and feel generally healthier.
