Would be especially interested to hear from those who've been on it for awhile, in addition to newbies like myself.

Yes and no!

I am much more aware of what I'm eating now and my portions are smaller. I don't mind not having treats if I'm not hungry and I don't force myself to eat dessert just because others are having it. I think, though, I'm still in the mindset that cake, chocolate and desserts are treats...despite the fact that they don't seem to taste as delicious as they used to. I'm hoping this is a sign that I am gradually changing.
My portions are smaller too ,I have a sweet tooth and love cake but having said that I too don't seem to be enjoying it as much as I used to, that is so strange ,it gets eaten out of habit more than craving and I must address that as its wasted calories
I've been able to watch OH eat cake and cheese and not want any. In the past I would have joined him regardless of feeling hungry or not but now much more aware of feeling hungry and when I want to eat. I have realised that feeling hungry is ok and I don't have to eat as soon as I feel a bit empty.
Oh I wish. Fast days are a breeze but feast days are just that!

Thankfully the fasts have stopped me gaining weight.

I blame the cold weather for my overwhelming desire for sweets and stodge!!
Absolutely. My portion sizes are smaller, and being hungry doesn't bother me so much anymore. I don't have eat something the minute I feel hunger - which is what I used to do. I tend to stay away from unhealthy snacks other than as a treat at weekends. And I have virtually given up cheese - I remember reading an article by the hairy bikers that finished with: Remember - cheese is fat.

And I don't even miss it, which is plain weird. I used to eat loads of cheese.
I am much, much more picky about what I eat. Snacking is a thing of the past and like most other people feeling hungry doesn't send me racing to the kitchen cupboards anymore. I actually enjoy the feeling of emptiness now.
My portions are indeed smaller but I eat pretty-much the same things. I'm a healthy cook, the problem is when I go out to eat. Still on my first day out I noticed that I had less to eat and drink and no pudding.

That's a very Swedish thing! It's all the extra cheese you have to eat to get it level with the cheese plane! ;-)
I tend not to go for chips as often as I used to when eating out and like others I find that my portion sizes have got smaller.

I have always had a sweet tooth and love any sort of cake or pudding, however, in the first couple of weeks of starting on this WOE on a particular feed day hubbie and I had our usual evening meal portion followed by a very indulgent dessert. Afterwards we both felt uncomfortably full which was not pleasant at all. Since then if we have dessert on a feed day we will split the main evening meal between us beforehand to avoid the 'overstuffed' feeling, this saves us money aswell (which pleases hubbie no end!) :like:
It's not changed my eating habits...yet. I've been doing 5:2 for around 5 weeks on and off (been ill inbetween and was impossible!) Weights coming off slowly at a pound a week though so I am happy :) always going to be a chocaholic though, there is no denying that.
Dark chocolate with chile is my fave, about a 3/4" square is all I need!
During my first few fasts I would crave chips and would decide to have them the following day. When the feast day came I wanted veg. Now I am obsessed with veg more than anything else.

Yesterday was a fast day and when I went to the fridge I thought Mmm crunchy celery!

I used to wake up after a fast and think Yay I have done it! Yay it is feed day. Unfortunatly that feeling has gone (I quite liked that feeling) but now feed days are just another day. I don't count calories but I now instictively know when I have overeaten. I don't feel guily about it, I just take notice of it.
My first ever fast day was yesterday. Today so far I've had a cup of coffee and a hot cross bun.....and I feel really queasy  If this is what happens then I'll have to change the way I eat on non fast days!

I haven't really changed the way I eat on feed days because I'd already done that, which is what stopped me from gaining huge amounts of weight. I stopped snacking between meals and switched from sugary drinks to water ages ago. That's one reason I think that 5:2 has been so easy for me in general.

I do eat cheese and chocolate and bread and drink booze but generally not far past my TDEE, which as a tall man who cycles to work is quite high.

I think what this diet and these forums have made me do is understand the problems faced by smaller people more. My wife is much smaller than I and I always knew that she ate less than me but hadn't given it much thought. I was quite surprised at how much higher my TDEE is than many women's. Then I thought about it a bit and if I'm say a foot taller than someone, say six feet as opposed to five feet to make calculations easier, that makes me a fifth as tall as them again, or 1.2x as tall. That's only in one dimension, though. If I'm 1.2 times as wide and deep as that person, that's 1.2 cubed which means that I take up 1.728x the volume! There's getting on for twice as much of me as there is of my wife!

This makes me feel for smaller people, as they get given the same portions and buy the same products as I do but a 250 calorie chocolate bar for example will take up a huge part of their daily allowance!
