I wish it weren't so quiet here
02 Jun 2015, 02:33
There is so little activity. I've started posting over at that other forum just because it is more active. But I don't like it. First, I know the people here, I know their stories, so it feels more like a family here. Second, I think MM was rude for copying so many of Moogie's ideas after encouraging her to start this place. I know people here love him, but I think that was a jacka** move. Third, the fast beach diet. The fast BEACH diet. *CRINGE*

Anyway, I wish I knew how to change this quietness. To bring people back. To bring more newbies in. Any ideas?
Haven't been on 'the other forum' for ages (used to be less active and interesting than this one), but agree that at some moments we could use some more posts, although some members are really wonderfull. If you follow the forum for a long time (as many of us do) you might get a sense that 'most issues have been touched upon', as there are so many contributions already and there is a lot of background information as well. So one thing that is important is to keep on attracting new members, for which visability is crucial. No clear ideas on how to improve that yet, but I will give it a thought.

By the way: I have always felt uncomfortable with the idea of using the lable 'official' on such a simple idea as 5:2 that was presented to you by someone else (as shown in the documentary).
I still feel a little uncomfortable posting on some threads as I am still relatively new to this WOE and the forum (been here around 8 months) so I feel a little like everyone here knows more than me and everyone knows everyone else so its a bit like being the new girl at school :-)

Also during the day I can generally only post when I am working from home which happens to be the days I fast ( am I weird I find it easier to fast at home !?) as otherwise I work on a customer site and it's frowned upon if you get seen to be on the internet, also the office/company culture is such that I don't even get a lunch break so I can't even post then !

But there is so much I would love to know but I'm a bit shy to start a new thread

How do you crack the last 6 pounds ( that's where I am now !)
Does anyone else here fly as a hobby ( I can't be the only flying 5:2're can I?)
Whats the best way to deal with a bungled fast day ?
Once you hit goal what is the best way to maintain (especially for little people I'm 5ft 1.5)
Does anyone else self sabotage and how do you deal with it ( I am the closest I have ever been to goal now in a healthy way but I keep wobbling as if I don't actually want to get there :-( )

With the exception of the flying one they have probably all been asked before so again don't want to do the wrong thing and start new threads on them .

The few people I do know who also 5:2 I have pointed them here as people are really friendly and there is so much advice .. I am just a bit of wuss :fear:
I'm a complete newbie here (*waves*) and have no idea what "the other forum" is you're referring to, but figured I'd drop in and say hi.

Hi! :)

I'm doing the 4/3 diet where I feast M,W,F and option of Saturday OR Sunday (depending on what social events I've got on, and fast T, Th and a weekend day. It seems to be working well for me, and I like the flexibility. Started three weeks ago and I'm down 3.7 kgs too, which isn't too shabby :)

The only things I'm really concerned about is a) am I losing weight TOO fast (I don't want to yoyo or lose muscle and b) is this sustainable for the long term as I don't want it to be "just another diet". So how are you people who have been doing this a while coping? It all seems too good to be true!

Lee.
Don't be shy about starting a new thread, @redrobin. People are happy to help, even if topics have been discussed before. Have you seen this discussion about wobbling https://forum.fastday.com/fastonbury-glamping-grounds-f34/the-really-rather-wobbly-needs-a-bit-of-support-tent-t14129.html?
Dashing to work, so I'll pop by later. I recall it being quiet around this time last year. Recently realised we have no challenge on the go, since DODO - that always spurs people on, especially newbies, well it did for me last year
Ooohh a new summer challenge would be good I really enjoyed the last one :-)
MORNING!!!!!
Sorry just being really loud and making some noise lol.
New threads are a great way to get people chatting! Another handful or two of faithful 'chatters' are what's needed. You don't need lots of busy threads but a few that people pop on all the time to check and add too and people carrying on conversations about their days would be good. 1 or 2 ongoing diverse threads. Doesn't all need to be about fasting, good old chit chat can drag people into an interestingly named but not too obscure headline topic.
Ive noticed that the threads for 'who fasts on Monday/any day of the week' etc aren't in constant use. Perhaps this would be a good place to start?
I haven't looked through all the threads, there are two many to be honest and I have found the site a bit tricky to navigate. Again, maybe if the Help sectioned was sticked to the top of the threads so newbies could find it right away and figure out how to use the site quickly. I imagine new people like me find it hard to figure out how to actually post a new topic, I eventually asked. Perhaps if there are any long term members who have plenty of time on their hands and could be more pro active in kick starting topics or even just getting Monday fasters, Tuesday faster etc. threads active each week?
Do we have a recipe thread? They are always useful, can it be 'sticked' to the top of the threads list? Perhaps a 'What's for dinner' thread?
How about a thread were people can celebrate small goals? I.e.my goals were, lose 7lbs, 1 stone, 10% of my body weight, a goal for my holiday, to get in a dress, or even a wow I didn't deviate once this week from my 500 cal fast days! I would be in there all the time... I hit 50lbs off, I've lost another half stone etc. You know boring stuff that only other fasters think are fantastic lol.
Do we have a thread for adding pics to show how we are doing? I added pics of before and after losing a fair amount in the 'introduce yourself thread'. I know some people don't like to share pics but some do. I take pics each week, it shows my progress and I also think, if I start to slip and gain I can remind myself of what I'll be returning too and how I look when I weighed less. I wrote on 'the blog' page but I'll be honest I don't really know how that works or who reads it or is it just your own personal blog for you to add too? Apologies if I am just repeating ideas of old threads but it's good to revive old topics too.
I may start a few threads today as I'm home and it's pouring down.
Happy Tuesday fasters.

Hi Robin, I think each and one of your queries are interesting questions and deserve you starting a thread. In fact this might liven up the forum. The subject might have come up before, but although there are many faithful forum members, there are also new members for who this might be of interest.

Also everybody keeps learning how to deal with situations (like a self sabotage) and no two days are the same. I can have a couple of weeks when I don't manage a decent fast and then surprise myself the next week with an absolutely great one. What I mean is that even if the subject has been raised before, I might have changed my view or tactics or whatever. We are all still relatively new to this way of life (two to three years is not that much) and none of us know if we can do this for life just because we have managed for a few months or years.

I think the fact that there are quite a number of regulars here makes this forum very homely and personal. I see it as quite a bonus. I am someone who can't relate to, or keep up with hundreds of people at once, and I am sure there are other people like me who like a more intimate site. Huge numbers change the feel of this forum and I am not sure if that would be better. Please, keep posting your questions as it makes us think about other aspects of fasting, too.

Sorry, I am not a hobby pilot Robin

@JayeGirl you seem to be the right girl to start a general, non specific, continuous "diet chat" similar to a buddy thread but for everyone, as you are at the beginning of a great "journey". everyone could join and encourage you as well as take inspiration from. Your motivation is refreshing even for old timers and maintainers like me. Just because we are maintaining does not mean we don't struggle at times or hit certain frustration points: In fact self sabotage seems to creep in once we are at goal or almost there. That's when we need this forum - it is all about MOTIVATION, ENCOURAGEMENT and FRIENDSHIP.

I sometimes think the topics are too specific and therefore run their course very quickly. Often I feel I can't contribute or have not much of value to add to a specific topic. For example in the daily fast topics, I often can't contribute much more than "I am in today". I am part of a fasting Buddy thread where we just talk about day to day things and struggles and I find that very helpful, personal and lovely. So Jaye, if you start one of those wider Buddy type threads where everyone is invited regularly, I will join you.
I think it went quieter when the 'chat room' opened. I didn't get involved with that, although I could have done, but the decline in posts on here seem to have started then. In addition, it can seem rather daunting, as @RedRobin says, when there is a number of established members who seem to 'know' each other. There is no need for anyone to feel that their comments and views are not welcome and valued. Just join in!
Hello there, I am here everyday, you can't get rid of me that easily.
Some people have gone because they have established their routine and don't need us anymore, some have given up, some are maintaining, some are lurkers......
It is upsetting when I see that a post I've put on here the day before is still on the front page. These places evolve naturally and unfortunately people move on for many reasons, summer holidays and Xmas usually brings in a new bunch of people. I've started so many tents now, I'm sure I'm up to my quota, soberistas, Fitbit nearly every month. So don't get dispondant peeps, it'll all come out in the wash.
I agree who's going to start the next challenge then?.......
Well I am embarrassed to admit this, but I've gotten quieter because I'm a bit ashamed of how poorly I'm doing keeping up at fasting or weight loss. I was up four pounds today, and while I suspect/hope that it was just eating very salty food the last two days and not drinking enough water, I don't have any guarantees that it's not simply the result of me being less vigilant.

I've been doing very well with my fitbit, so at least that's good. Anyhow, I need to clear my schedule and re-read some inspirational books. I found my copy of "Don't Go Hungry For Life" but it's been sitting by the couch for a week now. Ugh. On the one hand, I don't want to stay at 60 to 70 pounds overweight. But on the other, I'm just so tired of having weight and diet be such a huge factor in my life

Tacie, it's just as important to say when you are struggling. We all struggle but if we don't let people know then we think we are struggling alone and only we are failing while others are writing about victories.
Please don't shy away when times are hard. Isn't the point to help encourage and spur each other on.
Look back at what helped you lose, what foods you like that you won't gain weight eating. What things are you are eating that would make you gain that you could cut back a little on etc.
Don't lose heart, look at all the great work and effort you have put in so far and get yourself back into the head space you need to carry on losing.
Good luck :clover:
It is a shame it’s quiet here, because it does seem like a lovely forum. I love the idea of a fasting challenge, I haven't taken part in one here yet. Although with so much going on over the summer I'd probably be completely useless at it!

I was actually thinking of setting up a thread for the 30 Day Shred in July (because I’ll be in need of it after I get back from Glastonbury), which might get people involved? I hope so anyway because I’ve never completed it before, so I’ll be hoping for people suffering with me to help me along

One thing I noticed when I joined was how many abbreviations are used. I got used to it pretty quickly as I started reading more, so I don't think it would put people off joining, but it was a bit confusing at first!
