Im glad Im not the only one having probs.
Yesterday I wrote 2 posts about this and tried submitting them only to be directed back to 'web page not responding'.
Anyway I understand how to do it but when I choose an image and add file it says invalid image. OH has even altered my camera so the images arent as big .
Help please :-(

I think the size limit is not only the size in terms of megabytes but also in terms of pixels. I'm not quite sure, but when I take a pic with my phone camera and try to upload it, the site rejects it as too big, but if I crop the image, the site accepts it, so I'm assuming the actual size in pixels is a limiting factor. We need @Moogie to explain!

I do hope that it works for @Wolfie as well - I think she wanted to post photos in the body of the text too, as well as avatar change - she had a wonderful photo on her blog of the quilt she did for the xmas party thread

Thanks to everyone else for all your, um, thanks
(didn't realise it was really such a widespread need!)

Edited to add: yes Wolfie has been successful too :victory:

bigger pixels means bigger bytes normally thats why cropping it will make you be able to put up a phone camera shot. often a shot from a camera will be over 2meg which is way too big for this forum. there is a setting moogie can change to allow for bigger photos but not sure if she wants to as it might trip some resource limitation otherwise

if you have a great photo and dont want to crop but want it to be "in size" you can use paint or any other tool on most computers. without anything else, you can download the program from http://www.irfanview.com which is really good and has a lot of the features of Photoshop without the expense.. its donation ware meaning send hime $10 or less or more if you feel youve benefitted.

in irfanview you open the file and then click on image, resize. i tend to resize a mobile shot to about 1400 pixels and then it fits. though it will depend on compression/quality setting in your program. it wont show the 1400 pixel size unless you click it in the forum but thats ok. i find the forum "blurs" the smaller version lots only cause of some compression setting in the forum but i guess unless your piccy it can be ignored as a problem

i work with images in my day job a lot so only reason i know this stuff.

i had noticed some peoples avatars were a distortion of their bodies cause the avatar has to be square in which case you have to crop.

good luck everyone

It is already!

Could be quite a long drive as she's in Sweden!

Probably a more efficient way for @Wolfie to get her avatar up is to PM @Moogie and ask nicely if she would sort it out!

Whoops, I'll shut up then

Apart from driving to @wolfies house I don't know how to help her further with uploading an avatar.

The only way to drive over to me is if you got some Jesus strains in you and could drive on water :-)

Got the picture uploading fixed THANKS and any day now I will dive into the deep end of the avatar pool LOL.

The file size limit was set to half a megabyte originally in order to not clog up the server too much. We have a fair bit of space here now so I've upped this to 1MB. Yes, more pixels means more MB so cropping or resizing an image can help get it under the file size limit. There shouldn't be a limit in terms of the physical dimensions though :)

She could always drive over the bridge I guess @Wolfie but it seems such a dangerous place what with corpses being disposed of there, shootings and now ships crashing into it! (Taking my info entirely from the absolutely fantastic Danish/Swedish crime series "The Bridge" of which series 2 has just started in the UK...loving it!)
