Four inches of snow in Unst, snow hitting mainland Shetland, two boats broke their moorings and the north boat cancelled. Not good in Shetland

Sumburgh aiport shut now. Unst is the northern most island, Sumburgh is at the southern tip. It's moving fast southwards.
Are you actually there today @janeg or just homesick?
homesick as ever, karen.
watching the drama unfold on line.
it's actually very pleasant weather wise in the sand pit.

Easing here now, but I gather its coming your way @wolfie
Very windy and stormy here on Merseyside. Meeting a friend for lunch and Christmas shopping in Liverpool soon so hope we don't get blown away!
Big hugs to everyone affected by the storms. Here in the South it is windy but I get the feeling it's not as bad as you're having it up north.
I guess the girls (my two Italian Greyhounds) won't be going out today. They hate the wind. You should see them on a windy day...they are hilarious

It's really, really gusting here in North Norfolk and we've had a flood warning for the coast (could mean evacuation for some poor souls). We live a few miles inland, but I am a bit worried about our large trees front and back. I don't think I shall be going out today....put a load of washing on, join in on here, drink coffee, scrat about in my wardrobe, watch the Autumn Statement on TV and 'Bargain Hunt'.....oh what an exciting life I lead!
It's been a while since I last updated, but I was at my step class this morning. When I did give my last update on this, I mentioned a massive gust of wind. When that happened, I heard an almighty thud. Then just as I was heading out for my step class, I had noticed that the front of my letter box had been taken out by the force of the wind and now, I have had to report that to the local council so that they can fix that.
I live in high-rise flats and get the full force of the wind against my front door which is quite exposed and high up. I have lived in those flats now for over 9 years (I first moved there back in 2004) and there has been some massive storms during that time. However, this is only the first time that an incident like this happened in all of those years, and that just tells you how it was. Fortunately though, the wind has died down a bit (although it is still a little bit windy) and the weather has cleared up a bit. We don't have any snow here and since I'm still burning the calories from this morning's workout, I'm not really feeling that cold just now despite the lack of body fat which I now have as a result of all of my weight loss (why is why I'm struggling to stop losing any more weight).

Take care everyone. It sounds dramatic! Stay warm and dry if possible.
Yes, it was a wild night last night. Didn't get much sleep from the early hours, mainly because of wheelie bins falling over and emptying ( Thursday's bin day . . . ), not to mention flying flowerpots and bits of fencing depositing themselves in other peoples' gardens. Really vicious rain too - thought the windows were coming in at one point!
OH now outside , trying to pick up stuff strewn all over the street , before the bin men arrive. The seagulls are having a field day with the contents of the recycled food containers. Oh, joy !
Roll on Spring !

It is a very gusty wind that we are getting because it dies down for a while and gives us the impression that we have now seen the back of it, only for it to then suddenly pick up again. I think though, that the forecasts have predicted that this wind would finally die down this afternoon. I did here though, that there were no trains running and that the major bridges such as the Forth Road Bridge was closed to all traffic, so I'm just glad that I'm not having to travel anywhere today.
The good news is that the mountain of fallen leaves have been blown away, to where I know not but it saves us a job. The bad news is that facia above our garage door has been ripped off, but at least it has not done any damage whilst flying around like a whirling dervish. Glad I don't have to go anywhere today.

The weather didn't clear up for long, and I can report that it's now snowing here in Edinburgh (we've really had everything but the kitchen sink today).
