Wow. I see I have wind again   . Boy is it stormy here in Northumberland this morning. Even the cat is freaking out. I gather it is worse for our Scottish cousins. How are you all?

I was looking for an excuse not to go Christmas shopping today. Looks like I need to be careful what I wish for.
I'm tired! That's the noisiest I've heard the wind and rain in years. Apparently it is to get colder as the day goes on and the rain is to turn to snow. We are all fine but no doubt when I get to work there will be stories to be told!

Just heard - lots of schools closed due to power cuts (but not the one my girls go to which is just as well as oldest daughter has her music prelim today).
The weather is absolutely awful here. it is blowing a gale (which kept me up all night last night) and it is absolutely pouring down with rain. It is also still very dark for this late in the morning, and it doesn't help that we're also approaching the northern hemisphere winter solstice (which is the southern hemisphere summer solstice) which means that it's pretty dark here at this time of year for most of the time, anyway.

I have also heard that we are going to get a cold snap afterwards with cold northerly winds streaming down from the Arctic behind that weather system, and that is likely to bring snow showers to parts of Scotland and the east of England. Fortunately though, any cold such cold snap is also expected to be very brief with milder weather returning by the weekend. One thing that is for sure though, is that you won't hear anything like as much about our current weather situation as what we heard about the storms that hit parts of England not too long ago (which was even named as the St. Jude Storm). That is just typical of the English-biased media.
90mph winds forecast for Shetland
Schools shut and inter island ferries cancelled
Power people on standby as expected to be mucho disruption.
Stay safe people
Latest update is that we've just had a really massive squall with a huge gust of wind. Just now, it is also not just rain that we are getting, but also hailstones. We haven't quite had the power cut that some people are experiencing, but the lights have flickered off and on at times, which means that we probably haven't been too far away from experiencing that.
Oh dear...

Stay safe everybody

We had that kind of storm last summer, very impressive but fairly short, let's hope it will be the same for you :clover:
Hi @rawkaren - thank goodness day off today, so don't need to venture out! You must be in Tynedale, right? - here at the coast, north half of the county, it is very VERY windy and only half light. Not surprised when BBC weather said gale force 11, one less than hurricane ...

PS if you're around for the weekend, can recommend Corbridge for some xmas shopping (but you probably know this  ) - if you do go, pop into the Tourist Info Centre (and say hi to Allison) as they have some fab things to buy (and a FABULOUS library attached  ) - I got numerous gorgeous and local pressies here yesterday, including lovely lena pringle necklace for my sister, 2 northumbrian tartan ties for my nephews, capricorn mohair socks, lots of stocking fillers ... #justsaying #notoncommission

Oh and also popped into RE - definitely for those who love quirky presents, but good for a rumble around at the moment too ...
Oh dear, am sending good vibes and hugs to you all. We are in the midlands and it's boring business as usual for us, weatherwise. Stay safe,

Good morning @Silverdarling nice to see you posting. We are all still waiting for a photograph of you from your mum's birthday party, you will be nagged now it you comply, in fact we will all be 'demanding with menaces' soon, so.............

Ballerina x
Our gusts have just hit 90+mph and its now trying to snow...... not seen trees bend this much in a long time. Surprised the lights are still on.

Thanks for the recommendations! Ahhh RE. How could I forget. Some fabulous gift ideas in there. As I'm about 3 miles away I might venture out if it calms down later. :like:

Haha @Ballerina - no can do yet, as waiting for pics from my sister - don't hold your breath as you might expire    haha nice to be in people's thoughts though

@rawkaren no snow here probably a bit warmer nearer the coast but sky looks very grey and the rain is battering the windows ...
Here in Cornwall everything is still and clear and cold, no storm at all. Yet.

Thinking of everyone caught in the gales, snow, floods and disruption, I hope it soon clears. Take care. x
It's bad enough here in North Wales and we have flood warnings from storm surge with a high tide.
Our neighbour's recycling emptied itself on their drive at about 4am. The plastics went plop plop plopping, the tins went tink tink tinkering and the cans went clatter clattering clattering; I went grrrr pop ******** ******* or words to that effect.
I did go out at 4.30 to collect a particularly noisy can!
But our polytunnel has survived!

Stay safe everyone.

Love Corbridge and that part of the world. Makes me want to visit again.
Well, in the thirty minutes or so since I logged on here! the wind has really got up and the fallen leaves are swirling about like mad devils spooking Jenny , the cat from next door who was my avatar and is living with us for a few weeks as her folks are cruising 'down under', so I guess the storm is on the move. The trees are now bending about a bit so I will just hunker down for the day.

@Silverdarling with your excellent nagging abilities I'm sure you can get photos from your sister soon, yes, that was SOON!
