Hi all,

I love books and just got my first Kindle!
I have read C.J Sansom highly recommend Shardlake series of books. Murder mystery set in Tudor times very descriptive and I couldn’t put them down. Its nice to find some readers recommendations as I am running out of books I'm a terry Practchett fan and have most of his books.
Hope someone reads Sansom would love to know what they though about the books

We love the Shardlake series and would recommend them to anyone who enjoys a historical whodunnit. Favourite is 'Sovereign' - quite put me off the Tower of London!

If you liked Shardlake and the Tudor setting, did you try 'Wolf Hall' and 'Bring up the Bodies' (Hilary Mantel)? More intense than Shardlake, and a bit disorientating at times, the thing to remember is that as the reader you see everything from Thomas Cromwell's point of view quite literally - you see with his eyes. You are inevitably on his side because that is the only side you see. (I think her other books are great too, though completely different - especially 'A Change of Climate'.)

Read all Shardake series as I'm a bit of a history buff. All very good and what I think is his other name of S. J Parris.

hi jacquiann, hope you enjoy Wolf Hall - it won the Booker Prize so it's not just me! It's not a whodunnit though, it's about Thomas Cromwell's rise and fall from power (well it hasn't got to the fall yet, that's to follow in book 3 I understand).

The bit that throws many people is that it is written in the third person personal. So it always says 'he' for Cromwell even though it is from Cromwell's point of view. You never get to step inside anyone else's head; that's like real life - but we are most of us used to novels where the author often takes us inside multiple characters. Keep that in mind and it should all be clear.

I have read lots of SciFi in my time, but lost touch with that genre! I thought it had all gone to fantasy these days?

I bought 100 year old man..... the other day, looking forward to it! I'm in a book club, we're currently reading A Street Cat Named Bob, which is a nice easy read. I'll finish that in a couple of days then I plan to read The Kite Runner, followed by 100 Year Old Man, and I'll need to squeeze in whatever our next book club choice is!

Crikey, Thanks all of you...I've just popped onto Amazon and seen that the Kindle version of 'The 100 Year Old Man' is being sold at the knock-down price of 20p! Irresistible and duly downloaded onto my Kindle. Bargain. My current read (Susan Hill's most recent Serrailler novel) may temporarily be shelved.....

The Hundred Year Old Man. I thought it was very predictable, in that you know something completely ridiculous is going to make everything more ridiculous. I preferred Tom Sharpe's books in the 1970s.
