Readers forum?

There seem to be a lot of us on here who enjoy reading. Would it be an idea to have a book recommendation section, as in 'read anything good lately?'
Maybe reading isn't very conducive to weight loss but you have to sit down sometime!
My most recent good read was 'The life of Pi', strange but enjoyable book. I wanted to read it before seeing the film, which we did this week. Spectacular visual effects and I think they captured the feel of the original story pretty well.

Gillb Am an avid reader and would love this forum .Have just thrown out of my bed Canada by Richard Ford. It has been recommended by all the reviewers but I got to page 253 and decided I couldn't care less about any of the characters so gave up. I will drop it into Oxfam on Monday. Meanwhile I will commence The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society- not a good title when you are fasting. I think reading helps on the 5/2 because I tend not to eat whilst reading but always wan nibbles when watching TV

Currently I'm reading Arctic Dreams by Barry Lopez.

"I was obsessed with the incredible beauty of that landscape. I was haunted. I had the same quickness of heart that human beings have when, in an utterly incalculable way, they fall in love. ARCTIC DREAMS is about that experience - what happens between the heart and a piece of land, what happens between the mind and a piece of land..."

It's a wonderfully detailed book that describes the Arctic in a way that makes it come alive, like you're actually there with the animals and plants.

I'm working my way through the Inspector Montalbano series at the moment. Very enjoyable except on fast days because he does like his food, which is described in some detail!

'The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared'! Faboulous. I'm going to keep raving about it until someone I know has read it. Reading 'The Snow Child' at the moment but I think it's book good for when it's actually snowy. Like last year I read Anna Karenina (I'd been reading it over a few seasons because to me a Russian novel should only be read when it's cold).
'Life of Pi' has been on my list for ages.
Real books or e-readers? I'm a real book person.. though I can see the advantage of kindles and things. I did download Anna Karenina on to my phone, just for ease of train travel but when I was at home, the real book and nothing else!

I use a mix of real books and Kindle, tending to go between the two. Elaine I bought the 'One Hundred year old man' for my hubby at Christmas. He hasn't got round to it yet as has several others on the go so I might just nab it back!

Yes, yes yes, Elaine78 , The one hundred year old man etc. one one the best and funniest books I've read in years. Read on Kindle these days as price is cheaper, get a lot on daily deal including The Fast Diet. Other reading very eclectic, from sci-fi to classics. Read Emile Zola's The Ladies Paradise' recently, better by far than the TV 'adaption'.

I've toyed with that book for a while ( hundred yr man) and never downloaded it. Maybe I will now! I am currently reading 'Room' & really enjoying it. I read a lot! Lately I've been getting a third of the way through some books and just thinking ' life's too sort to read this drivel' enjoying Room though. Favourites from last year were 'before I go to sleep' into the darkest corner' and several others but I'll go through my kindle later as I can never remember names of books I read on kindle as you're not constantly looking at the cover! I enjoy good family sagas, (Diane Chamberlain has written a few good ones) and psychological thrillers. I also like a good chick lit from time to time. I'll compose a list later

I am combining 'reading' with exercise as signed up to audible and I now listen to audio books whilst out doing my regular walking exercise (If you pay a year in advance it is £70 for 12 books but they often run promotions (current one is get 2 books and get a £10 voucher) plus you get one for free when you join so I expect to have 15 or 16 books by the end so under £5 each).

The one drawback is that because I am concentrating more on listening than when listening to music I don't walk quite as fast as I did before!

I've just finished an excellent book called 'Hothouse Flower' by Lucinda Riley.
Would thoroughly recommend it...

Just finished 'hundred yr old man" and thought it was great! An easy read and a bit 'forest gump'. 'The God of small things' is also a favourite ....anything by Iris Murdoch!
