So sorry Maryanne. Throughout your healing process don't get frustrated with yourself and overdo. Your body has got to go thru a repair process. Good nutrition and the stationary bike and sleep will help to a speedy mend. :victory:

Sorry to hear MaryAnn. I'm sure all will be just fine. A gentle hug to you.

Which bit of which arm - the useful one or the spare?

Thanks everyone! Pete, I broke the radius of my left arm close to the wrist. I'm right handed, so it definitely could be worse. I'm finding out how useful two hands are today, though I managed to make a salad, including unscrewing a jar of feta.

Sorry to hear about that MaryAnn. I had what sounds like a similar fracture a few years ago. Every body and every injury is different, but the one thing I wish I had been told more clearly was the importance of flexing the fingers where I could (where they stuck out beyond the plaster) as early as possible. Obviously you mustn't overdo it, but please make sure at a very early stage that an expert advises you how far you can push it - in my case, I should have pushed further despite pain. I ended up taking a long time to recover full mobility and strength. But good news is that I did eventually make a full recovery - I have to stop and think which wrist it was!
You may well be made of tougher stuff than me though - I think it took me a while to get back to typing and opening jars!

Kentishlass, Thanks for the advice. The doctors kept asking me to wiggle my fingers on the day but I broke it but on that day it was incredibly painful to move anything. Since I got the cast on I have been able to move my fingers a bit. I will wait until the bone is set properly to try to move them much more. I hadn't appreciated how important it was. I thought it was just to make sure the cast wasn't too tight. Thanks so much. My biggest concern besides getting off track with the diet is not being able to play the piano again.

Don't worry about the diet you sound like you will not waste any time when you are able. Also both diet and playing the piano will motivate you. Just focus on that bone knitting and what it takes from your perspective to ensure you don't rush back too soon. Wishing you all the best for your op and a fantastic surgical team and post op recovery. Rather significant part of your body when you think about what your hand does and sure they will give you good post op and rehab instructions

Oh my god, you poor thing.

I'm going to echo what others have said and say listen to your body. It will let you know what it needs to heal. In the mean time, I hope you're not in pain and that the op goes, or went, well xx

I had a similar break when I was 9 from a fall when roller skating. It healed really fast as it does when you're young. An Xray about 3 years ago showed no sign of the break at all. It will be interesting to see if fasting helps with the healing time. Meanwhile, hugs to you. :hugleft: :hugright:

You poor thing - I really do understand where you're coming from with that one. I hope all goes really smoothly today and that your recovery is super fast. (I was going to type about legato and allegro but it was just too cheesy!)

Poor lamb, that's no fun at all. May I recommend comfrey tea, also known as 'bone knit', it helps bone repair quickly and well. Be gentle on yourself, there is residual shock to contend with too. Sending gentle hugs {{}}
