My daughter decided to go blond last year. She has long very thick hair. I offered to help her not having any concept of how difficult it would be. I had 2 goes at it then the hairdresser daughter of someone I work with and finally I paid for her to go to my haidresser. It is now very blonde so she just has to do the roots as light as they will go to match the rest. Her hair is very dry now. She uses argan oil on it and I think she was going to try coconut oil
Am not very grey yet , just around the hairline ( why does this look ok on men - think George Clooney - but less so on women???). Men look "distinguished" , women look "old".( or so we're lead to believe ! )
At 64 my hair's been getting gradually "lighter " since my 60th birthday ( thanks to 5:2 the same's been happening to my weight !!). My daughters treated me to a hairdo in a very expensive salon in Glasgow for my 60th .. . . . . .loved the cut and especially the colour and sheer luxury of feeling pampered there . So much so , I've been going back ever since , but only every 3 - 4 months as it's so expensive. It's my only "wee luxury " and I love it !
Used to colour my hair at home , with varying results , so now I save up for these salon visits and I love the end result .
Loved all your Before & After photos - would post mine but I'm far too shy !!!

Wow, nursebean , just looked again at your before & after photos - you look SO much younger with blonde hair . . . . . dark hair and light roots are ageing , ditto light hair and dark roots. I reckon you've got it just right . . . . lucky you ! Congrats on finding your perfect colour . You look great !

I have now let my hair return to its natural colour after a debate on here last year with me working out if I was courageous enough to do so. I vowed to continue having my hairdresser colouring my hair until I stopped work & my husband also asked me, after his hair became silver white, why I was still colouring it because we looked rather mismatched now!
My natural colour was very dark brown with colouring making it lighter over the years as I thought more grey was appearing until it was a sort of mid brown. But that colour really had too much reddish tone in it because I am naturally a winter in colouring. Well I had my hair cut short to let my natural colour grow out to find out what colour I really was & I am now silver around my face with a much darker iron grey elsewhere & feel this suits my skin tone much better. Friends have said I look younger & you can see the change in my interim before & after photos

I dye my hair silvery grey and have done for years. I am 30 next month. I get it bleached and then add a toner. It looks more purple here.
Here's a pic of me and my little son mucking about on PhotoBooth.

I finally got fed up with how quickly the white roots appeared. This year, I took the plunge and bleached my hair. I never thought I'd suit blonde, but I LOVE IT. Perhaps you could try it

Looks good @nursebean. You look really young with your hair the blonde.

I agree Beanie looks great now!
I get my DH to dye my hair for me. I don't have any grey but like to put an auburn tint through every now and then.
@nursebean and @carorees - Morrocan oil
My hair always frizzed up on the top, had tried various things over the years, but none as good as this.
@Wolfie and @auriga agree that nothing is better than a good professional colour and cut. I found my first grey hair at 26 and must be about 80pc grey now. Have been a range of colours, from warm brown, auburn to now dark blonde, and getting lighter all the time! Morrocan oil and good quality ceramic straighteners have made a big difference ; in spite of colouring it for years, apparently it is in good condition.
But now on the hunt for new stylist as my previous one coming back from maternity leave is only working 1 day a week
My 80 yr old Mum and I were only talking about this at the weekend, and both of us agree that having a good cut (and colour) means you hold your head up high.

At the hairdressers with root colour on sitting here waiting, waiting, waiting. I hate waiting. Anyway hairdresser said the just having highlights through the greys would work fine, but not yet. I'm still too young apparently So maybe I will be happy for another four weeks and then during the fifth week start having great ideas again and changing my mind and ask the same questions about going natural and will be talked out of it and feel great afterwards and on and on goes the cycle.
Going with the flow!!
For now

I love my white hair and its great for getting seats on public transport but of course I have to relinquish it if a real elderly person comes on board..the irony is its always obvious they are much older than me even with their dyed hair. I prefer to spend my money and time on other areas that need maintenance!
Hmm, my mom turned grey (and wrinkled around 40) and I never thought it looked good. Happily I have my dads genes, he was dark blond with a little grey around his temples and mostly laugh wrinkles, so my grey isn't that wide spread yet and the good side of my face is even though I turn 58 in the fall, quite free of major wrinkles.
With my coloring I will never look good in grey or white, so I go with the color my new magician got me for as long as is foreseeable
