Yesterday I was reading 'World War Z' by Max Brooks. Mainly because it has been made into what looks like a very good film. (Science Fiction)
The book was gripping, so much so that I stayed up till 2:30 still reading it.

Today I am reading the companion book 'Zombie Survival Guide' Which gives more details of the background and basic premis of the other book. This too is fascinating and very well structured.

I am a bit of a science fiction nut, but I also love Westerns, and biographies of the Gerald Durrall (animal books) and travel books of the 'upping sticks and making a new life elsewhere' type.
I'm currently reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.

It's a thoroughly engrossing story about a daughter researching her mother's past in wartime London. It was a little slow to start with, but I can't put it down now.
Lewis Man by Peter May - first one was The Black House (crime fiction based on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides)
I'm reading To kill a mockingbird . It's my all time favourite and I read it every couple of years.
Hi Silverdarling,

I read 'Lewis Man' recently and could not put it down, great book, well researched so I may try to read more of his works. A 52 book club might be a nice idea where we can read a book and then get together over a few glasses of wine with nibbles to discuss it, virtually, of course. I feel that I have made good friends on here and it would be nice to take things to another level, or not! Just please do not make me write the first book, O.K?

Ballerina x
Yesterday, I finished Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple. A marvellous, read in one day, very different sort of book.
Ballerina - 3rd one is the Chess Men published this year ... All written in French first, and he lives in SW France!

I do like the Scottish crime writers - just saw Denise Mina at the Harrogate Crime Festival where she won Crime Novel of the Year. Also like Kate Atkinson and Ann Cleeves. Can recommend Ann's Shetland books - if you like Peter May's books, you will like Ann's (and I knew her before she hit the big time  )

A 52 book club is a great idea ... Good mix of people on here, and reading is a good distraction on a fast day ...

As for writing, well haven't you written most of one already??  :geek:
I'm reading all the Wizard of Oz books. Never knew them as a kid and really enjoying the fun of them now. Before that I read The One Hundred year old man who climbed out the window.
Good thread I love books.
I'm reading "Being of the Field" by Traci Harding. It's the first book of a trilogy and I have all 3 books out from my lovely local library so I'm set for a while!
I've just discovered Jill Paton Walsh's pastiches of Peter Wimsey. The author is listed as Dorothy L. Sayers and Jill Paton Walsh. Her voice is so much like Dorothy Sayers--it's great fun for us mystery (especially British mystery) fans.

When travelling, we always listen to Harry Potter audiobooks--can never get enough of that great writing and wonderful narration.
I just bought a copy of Zelda Fitzgerald's book, "Save Me the Waltz" I'm not very far into it yet, but I'm definitely impressed. She's got her own style and a very strong voice. I suspect the only reason she's not more popular is because her vocabulary surpasses that of popular fiction - by a long shot!
A hologram for the king by Dave Eggers. I'm not very far in but that says more about me than the book.
Who has time to read? I can't keep my nose out of this forum!
2 on the go this week - at home XO Jeffery Deaver - brilliant as always - I love crime, mostly British Crime...Peter Robinson, Stephen Leather, Quinton Jardine, Peter James etc other book (smaller for backpack on train) is Ruth Rendells 'Not in the Flesh' - a Wexford mystery
Game of Thrones. Trying to hurry through it so I can catch up with the TV show ;)

ETA: And yes, it is very good, I can't sit down and read it for less than a couple hours at a time because I get sucked in!
