Hi Sian, thanks you must let me know how it works for you in the coming weeks - did you have it down at Drs or family planning? Love the fact that the eyebrow threading was worse! Not love your pain of course, you know what I mean! x

The specialist contraceptive nurse at the Doctor's surgery did it, she has been really good and supportive throughout the whole process. I was concerned that if I gave up my beloved combined pill the lack of Oestrogen would turn me into a menaupausal nightmare. She persuaded me to stop for a few weeks to have some hormone level blood tests done, which showed that I was already well into it, and although I've been feeling normal without the pill, I disliked not knowing when I might suddenly have a period. Hence this coil. OK so far a bit of light spotting as you would expect.
Just about to get on the Cross Trainer then a lovely post Fast brekkie and out to lunch with some friends. I love this WOE.

Thanks Sian - I might have a chat with our nurse then at some point, I thought it weird I was being pushed onto family planning - maybe they are tightening their purse strings now they are part of the clinical commissioning group.

Hope you had a great day - I'm off to a Barn Dance tonight - a new experience for me!

My husband couldn't bear the idea of a vasectomy so I was sterilised. We had 3 children and decided that we didn't want any more plus I was in my 40s but it was quite an easy op, not painful or anything and not having to worry about contraception is such a bonus.:)

Just checking in to see how things went, glad all is ok it's easy to get worked up about health related issues, especially when they are in awkward places! I have a slight prolapse after having my kids and finally plucked up courage to talk to the doctors and he referred me to physio, I then got a letter inviting me to a group session! Needless to say that completely put me off and I'm now hoping weight loss and pelvic floors will sort things out! I have no desire to sit in a room with lots of other people even though the rational side of me knows they'll have the same issue!
Anyway, I have the coil and although it takes a while to settle (I had one previously too), now I don't even think about it and all seems sorted so definitely worth looking into! Hope things all start looking up for you now! :0)

Hey Cags,

Just wanted to say that I hope you went well with your doctor. I do understand the mini pill battle as had to give up the combined (estrogen tumours) and it was nothing but pain. The Mirena didn't work out for me either. I later found out I was infertile (though had wonderful success with IVF) so it was all for nothing - and a stupid massive tumour for nothing. I guess what I'm saying is I understand the frustration. If you are still struggling you could have some blood tests done to see what your FSH and LH are like, if they are low you may not need a contraceptive or only for a few days a month. Please understand I am NOT suggesting you are infertile, it's just that many woman over 35 have much shorter luteal phases and therefore the need for 365 day coverages is less. It takes a good doc for this and my ob was my saviour.

Also, you mention your bowel. Could it be chronic constipation? I ask because I suffered, well, still suffer I guess but now I treat it, and I lost 3.5kg when I um, got cleaned out. It showed up in an X-ray but I was so bloated, tired and weak....and only weighed 56kg at the time.

Anyway, I hope you are back on track.

Hi I just fell upon my own topic when doing a search for mirena! I had it fitted on Monday and have read so many horror stories including weight gain! Just looking to see if anyone had anything to say about it (not just re weight gain), as I feel like I can feel it - am not quite myself!

I successfully lost 8lbs in the 5 weeks leading up to Christmas but put on 4 during christmas week! Must try and knuckle down again but have been comfort eating a bit, as feel out of sorts since having the mirena.

I am pleased to say that my constipation problems eventually went away (was worried mirena would scupper that too!) I started taking calcium with magnesium a few months ago and I think that has helped.

Not done a fast day in a while, will build up to that when I'm feeling better!

Happy New Year everyone

 Hi Caroline and Welcome back
Glad at least some of your problems have been sorted.
RE:: the mirena I did have one fitted many years ago and was brilliant for my problem with heavy and far to frequent periods i bled from the moment it was fitted very heavy at first and didn't stop for 3 months!!!! Problem solved best decision ever.
I can't remember gaining anymore coz I was already overweight but I felt a different person and never really had
" The change of life" not even experienced one hot flush!!!
Hope all goes well for you and maybe trying to reduce your intake of carbs will help you with cravings and overeating on normal days. Let us all know how you're going on

Thanks Sue that's really kind of you to reply. I think my mirena is starting to settle down now, haven't managed to find the threads yet though, but won't worry until I have my check up (or should I?). I will be glad when the quality street tub is empty! I am fine with an unopened tub but once it's open I'm dreadful! Well done on losing 50lbs, that's amazing xx

 Hi @Cags only felt my threads once in 6/7 yrs.

unfortunately our q/street tub + other chocks arn't even
open yet!!!! but I'm rationing to 2or3 on non-fast evenings which is better than this time last year but for some reason had more chocks given to us as pressies this xmas than ever before this I will stop deffo!!!! people will have to be told because there I so much temptation everywhere but my OH is very good at squirreling them away.

Only doing a 16:8 today because of "events" can't wait for everything to return to normal whatever that is

Ah that's good then. My sister in law said she's never felt hers and has had an iud for nearly 30 years (not the same one lol). We have an opened tub of Quality Street and it will have to stay that way. We got loads more chocs and biscuits this year too!
