I'm with you Suchard! I just measured waist/hips/bust at the start and lately they have stayed the same but I can see that my arms and thighs are going. It would have been a boost to be able to measure and have a base-line to compare with.

So I need to eat low carb/sugar on non fast days? I tend to eat no carbs on fast days anyway and more protein. Will search for more info.
Another month and not quite another measley pound although my waist measurement has gone down by one inch. I'm giving it one more month to see if I get anywhere and then I'm going to have to reconsider. I did miss a couple of fast this month but still 6 fast days for just under one pound is ridiculously slow
But an inch off your waist is ridiculously GOOD!

An inch off your waist is really good! Forget the scales they mean little... I lost only half an inch off my waist last month. My first target is to get my waist to be less than half my height as it's the waist measurement that's important for health!
Phoenix, An inch is indeed good but if you aren't happy with the speed of weight loss, why don't make sure that there is nothing that stops you from losing? Insulin resistance, hypothyroidism, hormonal changes...
Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, apologies if not. Prior to starting 5:2 in April I had been following another plan which involved giving up refined sugar & eating whole grains, since doing 5:2 I've reintroduced refined sugar... Think it was a BAD move as in the last 2 weeks I've not lost anything and have had way more migraines and my skin has developed dermatitis.
My question is... Should I go cold turkey again ( I fast Mon & Wed generally), as that's how I did it last time? Also what kind of snacks do you have on feed days, I've recently started getting graze boxes which are generally healthy.
Any hints gratefully received as I can't go on feeling this yukky!

Pumpkin42 - You said you had reintroduced refined sugar since starting the 5:2 WOE, and are now suffering from migraines and dermatitis.
You are not the only person on the forum who has started to eat unhealthy foods since doing this WOE, thinking that they can "get away with it", because the book says it's OK.

Pumpkin, I know that a few people would want to kill me for saying that but, IMO, you should eat everything as long as you do so in moderation and you don't have a food allergy.
The reason why 5:2 is called a WoL and not a diet is because it allows you to eat as always and still lose (or maintain) weight.
To my knowledge, sugar is not related to migraines (red wine and chocolate are though) and unless you weren't eating it all your life I don't think you can blame it for your symptoms. On the other hand, I'm not a doctor and perhaps you should consult one.
My advice to you in general would be to eat everything but don't overdo it. And -above all- don't start doing something that you won't be able to follow for the rest of your life because it will be meaningless...

Thanks tomtank & TML ~ I felt much better without refined sugar, fresher and def had less migraines when I wasn't eating it, but you're right about all things in moderation... I've just packaged up all my sweet things to take into work for everyone else to munch on and will see how I get in with reducing it. I do think I am 'addicted' to sugar & have always had a sweet tooth, maybe I'm better to cut it out for a while & see!
I will report back!! Thank you again, for your time. Xxx

One more thing: if you stopped eating it then you aren't addicted to it. I am addicted to coffee and I can't spend a day without it...
I have to say that though I am for all things in moderation I would certainly recommend cutting out refined sugar - there are no nutrients in it and there are plenty of natural sweeteners which are much better for you!
For what to snack on how about fruit? Or make your own cakes etc using a natural sweeteners!

I have found if I don't drink lots of water everyday my weight loss is sluggish. Also, could it be a salt issue? Any processed food is loaded with it even if you never pick up a shaker.
