That's very true for me too. And I can actually now stop myself after just one or two squares of chocolate which would have been unthinkable before.

There will always be excuses TayTay. I find what helps me is logging everything I eat, in a way it makes me think about whether I REALLY want something or am just eating it because it's there. I do still eat chocolate (and am drinking wine as we speak) but am more mindful of what I put in my mouth and when I do, I enjoy it without guilt which to me is what 5:2 is all about. The best of luck to you.

I don't mean to sound like my grandmother but throwing food away when there are people who don't even have water to drink sounds very bad and unethical.
Give it to someone, donate it, make a dessert for your family, put it in the freezer but please don't throw it in the garbage. The food that goes to waste in the western world is unbelievable. And it's one thing to have gone bad because you forgot it in the fridge and another to willingly throw it away... :-(

I found not buying the tempting things helps. The other day I found myself buying a tub of vanilla icecream and got tempted with it last two nights.. Both on feast days but I'm definitely overeating. In the back of my head i say..well I will fix it on my next fast day.. Only 3 weeks in so not sure if I should be too carefree on feast days. If I do gain weight over next two days I am sure not to do the icecream again.

Really interesting comments on this thread. I've jumped on the scales to find I have gained weight this week. No surprise because of food and wine over the bank holiday weekend, and then two days away this week with delish meals again. In fact the calories overall weren't all that bad, so it is VERY annoying to have put weight on when lots of fast-dieters say its good to have the occasional high-calorie day mixed with some just under TDEE. Hasn't worked for me this week. Grr.

Just out of curiosity: is it a custom in the UK for adults to gift each other with giant chocolate eggs on Easter? I don't think it's done here in the US, at least not wherever I've lived. True, the stores are full of chocolate eggs and bunnies at Easter time, but I've always thought it was intended mostly for children. Maybe I've just been oblivious.

Not sure about the UK but its definitely big in Australia. Some restrict it to children combined with chocolate egg hunt activities, but its popular to give chocolate eggs, bunnies and bilbies to you sister, mother, brother, daughter, grandma, any age group.

Indeed I dont do it at all, the gifting, as I am annoyed that its an incredibly commercially oriented time, far from the original Christian meaning or even if it is just a good opportunity to get together with family and friends. The family has accepted my principle of no eggs (i think)

Juliana,

What's a bilbie?

I can see that this forum is going to fun for more than the diet--we'll learn something about the culture of other countries.

And I thought I was learning a lot of that from my hobby of reading mysteries--most of them set in the UK--some in Australia, too.

Hi TayTay - well, I have to confess that I did it!!
I put the remaining half of my chocolate egg in the bin!!!
yes, I felt guilty for doing it because it was a gift but I could not leave it alone..... it just had to go!!!

I think that guilt was way better to live with than that of eating it and then having to deal with that

ps: I got over the guilty feeling pretty quickly

pss: yes Marybeth we aussies can get a bit carried away with giving each other chocolate at Easter! :dazed:

I love this community thing too, generated by this forum. Like minded individuals trying to lose weight and when we ALL REACH OUR GOALS how to stay that way, be healthy and live longer!

A Bilby is a georgeous native of australia - but in terrible danger of extinction

heres the wiki article

hence for the wildlife conscious, theres a bit of a growth of giving Chocolate bilbies, not bunnies (as rabbits are a bit of a bad name in the wildlife here)... though i have beautiful pet one!! pic here..

Yes, interesting comments. I think most of us deal with overeating certain things. Here's my technique which works mostly well. If it's a sweet or chocolate that I crave I mix the eating of it with fruit or nut. I end up eating far less of the chocolate than I would have if I hadn't also had the fruit or nut. Have worked it so that a small amount satisfies now. It also helps to eat the small something of whatever you crave and really enjoy it...rather than try to withstand, withstand. Good luck!

Brush your teeth, take a walk, get busy so you can talk yourself out of the temptation, keep logging your calories in so you can get real with yourself. Finally figure out Why you are sabotaging yourself - this program is the fastest I have ever lost inches? So why don't you want to succeed?

I really feel your pain! I have found myself eating way too much (especially chocolate) over the past few weeks. Fasting days are easy. I'm really battling with non fast days. I seem to be back to the self sabotaging that I've done when trying to calorie count or lose weight some other way.

Taytay I also have knee and back problems, and foot problems. Here's hoping losing weight will relieve them to enable me more exercise time, which is a win win. As I continue on this journey of 5:2 I am learning that, as someone else said, I am not afraid of feeling hungry. In fact, I am starting to like that hungry feeling because I know the scale numbers are going down. Not feeling afraid of that feeling is surely empowering.

I saw a TV programme once where all the audience were given a bar of chocolate and told that they could eat as much as they wanted but...

one half could eat it as they liked and the other half had to break off one piece at a time and let it melt on their tongue. They couldn't even suck the piece, just melt and swallow the chocolatey goodness.

The 'ordinary eaters' had demolished the whole bar in about 10 minutes; the melters (perhaps obviously) still had quite a lot left BUT they didn't want toe at it all.

Perhaps taking a bit of choc and letting it melt is the way to go? No cheating though

Hello folks wow, my thread is booming ^.^ thank you all for the comments. Yes it is a UK thing to give chocolate eggs, it's mainly for children but adults aren't excluded.

The egg is now gone I had a small portion on Friday and the last bit on Sunday, compared to last weekend this one wasn't bad at all food wise, that and I had conciderably less alcohol, fingers crossed for the weigh day and thank you for the comments and suggestions. :D
