Here in Greece, sweets are involved in every holiday, special occasion, party at someone's place etc. If it's not someone close, the easiest thing is to give a box of sweets or a bottle of alcohol (yay).
Easter is full of chocolate but I would never consider throwing away any of the chocolates that people bring me so that I won't eat them. I use the bigger eggs as decoration for the 40 days after Easter that we keep all the decorations up and then cut them into pieces, stick them in the freezer and use them for desserts.
The smaller chochies go on the kitchen table for everyday use by me, friends, family, visitors etc.

This Easter and empty nested a first for me I did not consume any chocolate as Easter Sunday - fast day. I found 3 little Egg on the bench and thought how sweet so the Easter Bunny did come for me. So I put them away for my feast day. Later came a lament from OH "where are those eggs the're mine!"
Moral ... There is none and I have consumed moderate amounts of chocolate since when feasting
