Yay! I'm under 55kg. That's 13.5kg lost, which is 19.7% of my body weight. So thrilled!
I now have a healthy BMI of under 24, Visceral Fat of 8, waist:height ratio of under 50% (from 90 down to 75cms). These are numbers I have dreamed of achieving for years, but frankly I had given up all hope of getting there.
At 63, I feel great, look tons better and no longer worry about diabetes.
I've been doing this with my husband, who reached his target a few weeks earlier than me. We started with 2 weeks of calorie restriction on Jan 2nd, then we got going on 5:2 on Jan 14th. I have done 5:2 all along with just one week of 4:3 before a mini break, and altogether 2 weeks holidays without fast days.
January was a dry month, with no alcohol. Subsequently we have aimed for Mon-Thurs to be alcohol free, with occasional exceptions for dinners out. I calorie counted everything for the first 4 months, aiming to stick to 1200 calories on most days, with a little more leeway for drinks and treats at the weekend. I no longer need to count, my portion sizes have dramatically reduced (apart from the size of my salads!) and I eat way less carbs than I did before. I'm small and relatively inactive, so it has been necessary for me to really change the amount I eat - I couldn't have done this without counting.
I still enjoy home made pizza, a few chips, a biscuti with a cup of tea and toast with peanut butter for breakfast - or a full English!. I think I still love chocolate, but I rarely think about eating it. I enjoy wine and a glass or two of vodka and tonic, but now my consumption seems reasonable, not dangerously high.
I am so thankful that my husband saw Dr Mosley talking about 5:2 on TV. It has truly changed my life for the better.
I'll be sticking with it!
