Delighted or Disappointed?

I went out for a chinese meal on Saturday evening. I had expected to be quite restrained and not eat too much as I had managed to do this on a previous occasion. Even though I didn't drink any alcohol, I seemed to fail quite badly in the restraint front and ate freely of starters, crispy duck and a selection of main dishes. I actually told everyone how full I was after the crispy duck and yet still managed to stuff down a fair bit more food!!!

Next day the scales showed an increase of 1kg!!! Sunday I was not too badly behaved and skipped lunch but did have a fairly calorific evening meal. Monday morning showed a further increase. Fasted on Monday and went a bit over 500 cal due to DS making dessert...strawberries and cream...I asked for a very small portion but his idea of very small was pretty large and I just went ahead and ate them anyway. Tuesday the scales showed a slightly smaller than expected post-fast day decrease . I just kept feeling hungry and so overate by quite a bit I think and today am up again so that now puts me 800g heavier than last week. So it looks like one meal out has resulted in an appetite increase lasting several days and the trendline on Libra suddenly shows goal being December 2014, when last week it was saying December 2013! I'm hoping that Thursday's fast will bring things back on track. But really, one meal out and wow!

So the weight went like this:
Friday 28th June: 82.2 kg
Saturday 29th June: 82.5 kg
Sunday 30th June: 83.5 kg
Monday 1st July: 83.7 kg
Tuesday 2nd July: 82.8 kg
Wednesday 3rd July: 83.0 kg

This is the first time that kind of thing has happened to me. Normally after a meal out I'm quite restrained over the next days and it has in fact improved weight loss. What do we think the cause is? Too many carbs? (So many of the chinese dishes are very sweet). Changes in my body after 8 months of weight loss resulting in appetite suppression being less powerful? It rather worries me because of my up-coming 3-week holiday that is normally a daily food and drink fest...I am hoping to do 16:8 on holiday but it looks like it might not be enough to prevent dramatic weight gain!
I had a similar reaction after eating Chinese food - I was hungry all week. I suspect it's because so many of the dishes I was attracted to were high in sugar and fat - ribs in black bean sauce, sweet & sour chicken, hoi sin sauce for the crispy duck. I took a look at some Chinese sti-fry sauces - absolutely LOADED with sugar.

From past experience, I know that when I eat sugar I crave more sugar. On holiday choose foods that are likely to keep your blood sugar levels more stable - maybe that will help?
The same thing happened to me (you can see the bump in my tracker, right around where it's marked as maintaining) because of a pizza. It was one of those thin as cardboard frozen Dr. Oetker ones, and I didn't even overeat significantly. It was a Saturday eat ad libitum day for me, and I've managed to eat far more calories than that without it affecting me or the scales.

But that carboriffic pizza messed me up, first making me bloated with wheat and salt, then messing with my appetite and cravings for a few days. I had expected the weight to disappear with the water bloat, but it didn't, probably because of my changed appetite.

But I stayed on 16:8 for two weeks while maintaining (suspected pregnancy) and the weight did come off and my appetite did normalize. I'm sure 16:8 will work for you too! Eat some pickled herring for me while you're there.
Thank-you Caroline just a bit worried now after Indian buffet meal out last night, I am willingly fasting today as I still feel ''stuffed'' so maybe that's a good sign and will do tomorrows normal fast as I don't have problem doing 2 days back2back and ready for Fridays weigh-in unlike you I haven't got on scales this morning as I don't want to get depressed, considering what I ate last night :clover: Sue

Just had one of those for lunch, with a tomato!

yes, Chinese food is loaded with sugars and fats, so that's partly to blame.
It might be 'far reaching consequences'(in the rather short term), but I'm sure it'll result in you being extra vigilant during your hols.
My fish and chip supper when we got back home last Friday has had a similar effect, so I'm aiming for 4;3 this week.

But, isn't that the whole joy of this WOE? You *won't* carry on eating like that, you *know* you can redeem it and your eventual target *won't* be December 2014.

:high5:

 :like:
The culprit my dear fellow faster is MSG!! They have it in everything Chinese food. It makes you thirsty and what not. There is a big movement back in Singapore where eating places advertise cooking with non msg......
I too was thinking water retention due to salt and MSG. But it's true there's silly amounts of sugar, too.
I think it's Chinese food, I have a significant bump in my otherwise pretty good graph from the weekend I ate it.
Some take aways and ready meals give me a massive water retention reaction and that is even when there is no MSG in the ingredients, it is some thing else and I don't know what but the big give away for me is I get little fluid sacks under puffy eyes so I know the scales are just down to a water retention reaction I have had. I think maybe you have had a reaction to one of the ingredients, it takes me about 4 days for it to settle down. Hasn't stopped me eating them though hahahahaha
My thought on your post was "how could a net gain of 0.8kg result in a year's difference on the goal? Something seems wrong there.
Libra is very pessimistic, because it only looks at the average of a few days, and if that average isn't falling, even if it's keeping even, libra thinks you're going to gain.
It only takes the last few results so my graph from last week went from Aug sometime to never!!

My mathsy OH explained it to me... but all I know is it'll be ok in a week's time. I've had it do all sorts but so long as the time is down eventually, I'm happy.

The Chinese and all day brekkie w/e can clearly be seen in May. Interestingly, well to me, fish and chips doesn't seem to have much effect. However, 2 lots of pizza out last week does!

Changed the number of observations used to calculate the trend in Libra and I got the goal date back to January! (changed from 7 days to 10 days).
