Delighted or Disappointed?

6 posts Page 1 of 1
Having lost nearly 2kgs in my first week, I was disappointed to lose nothing in the second week, despite not overeating on non fast days and sticking to the 500 calorie limit on non fast days. I only have a little weight I want to lose, so I suppose I shouldn't expect to lose too much too quickly, but it is frustrating nevertheless, having read the book and how easy other people have found it to lose weight on the 5:2 plan.
I don't think I have the willpower or motivation to do 4:3, but maybe that is necessary if you don't have much weight to lose?
Don't panic! 2kg in one week is a lot. I expect a lot of it was water, which you have regained while losing a bit more fat. Next week will likely give you a true reading. No need to go to 4:3 just yet. Did you measure your waist?
Hi Caroline
Thanks for your reply, very sensible and I should have realised that a of the initial week's loss would be water. I'm also quite constipated feeling bloated so maybe that isn't helping the weight loss.
I've just measured my waist and it is 1,5cms smaller (if I'm measuring it correctly!)

I'll see what the scales say next week.
I wouldn't think starting 4:3 would be a good idea without getting used to 5:2 first. I think just give it a while longer to see what happens.
Patience is a virtue Mattyboy, and you and Carowees were quite right. It wasn't necessary to go to the 4:3 diet. I've done 4 fast weeks now and knew I'd lost some inches and getting on the scales this morning proved it at last. I've now lost 3kgs and am now below the 60kg threshold that I haven't been for ages, and I'm over half way to my target weight of 57kgs.
The 5:2 isn't a "quick fix" diet but it has been very easy to stick to and I love the freedom to not overindulge, but eat food I like on non fast days. I hope everyone else sticks with it.
Even if the scales don't budge for a few weeks it doesn't mean that you aren't losing fat, just be patient (not one of my strengths!)
