To gym or not to gym
31 Mar 2014, 09:34
Ok I'm feeling like a complete gym bunny failure. I woke up this morning with pains at the top of my left leg (trapped nerve.), a sore right knee and a stiff neck. Monday's normally a gym day for me but I just can't face it. I kind of feel that at the age of 61, discretion is probably the better part of valour. Am I just being a wimp or being commonsensical?

Sounds like common sense to me, Rachael! I'd say it's not such a good idea to exercise when you've got a trapped nerve. Could you swap the gym session for another form of exercise that won't aggravate your aches and pains? Maybe yoga or something similar might help the trapped nerve and stiff neck? Or gentle swimming?

Yoga is a great idea. Thank you x

Exercising on some aches and pains can prolong an injury, so seems common sense to give gym a miss. Can you go for a gentle walk instead?

Just got back after a long slow stroll with the dog. Still feeling a bit meh but I think a lot of it is down to over indulgence yesterday. So I'm going to give myself a massive kick up the backside and do better tomorrow!

Well I haven't visited the gym at all this week - just haven't felt motivated. On the plus side, I've had lots of long dog walks, and helped to clear out daughter's bedroom and ship masses of stuff up into the loft.

You will be ready when you are ready. Had you thought about classes, they are very motivational especially if you get a good instructor and a good crowd.

If your aches and pains are troubling you then maybe Pilates and yoga are more suitable.

Personally I don't like the Gym, full of too many posers and people waiting for bits of equipment.

But one mans meat is another mans poison.
Good luck and I hope your mojo returns soon @RachaelB
