Very active job + fasting days?
22 May 2013, 19:57
I have a very active job and work long hours. I have managed to fast on one job day, but this was a day I knew I was going to be fairly quiet. However, sometimes I think it's going to be quiet and unexpected things happen and I find myself doing very hard work.

My fear is that if this happen on a fast day I will be very weak at the end of the day (feeling shaky, like I'm gonna faint and stuff like that - not very safe!). Is it ok to eat a bit more on these days (like 100-200 calories) and still count it as a fast or should I just face it and break the fast and try and fast again another day? Problem is, then weekends will be fasting days = booooriiiiing!!!

I'm a rider, so a quiet day for me 2-3h riding and the rest (6-7h) yard work (so mucking out, grooming, sweeping, a lot of standing, walking and lifting, but nothing that will raise my pulse and make me more than a tiny bit sweaty).
A busy day I'm in the saddle for 6 solid hours + 3-4h yard work.
My husband is a painter and decorator and on his fast days he has around 800 cals and has lost 9 pounds in 4 weeks. He is 30 years old and had a BMI of 29.
I find it easier to fast on the days I'm very active (in the garden, cleaning the gites on my feet non stop). I find my energy levels are better on a fast day than the day after a fast day when sometimes I feel a little faint in the mornings.
I hope you don't mind me saying Susan but your BMI seems very low, I am unsure of the healthy range tho
Hi Claire, my BMI is about 19 now, I weigh 57kgs so a little more than when I finished 5:2. It is healthy, honestly (unhealthy is under 18.5) I'm not too thin because I have a small frame and the low end of the BMI suits me best. I'm only fasting for maintenance now, I certainly don't want to lose any more weight!
I also find I have much more energy when fasting and I find doing sports stuff easier. Couple of ideas for you - why don't you take something with you to work to eat if needed? You could also try eating your 500 cals during your working day and nothing at home where you can relax?
