Inspiration needed! (New title)
07 Jun 2013, 09:49
Hi all, I'm looking for some help/advice and mostly inspiration!!!

I really want to lose weight from my middle and tone up but not sure where to start and what excercises are best to do. I've heard not to do sit ups yet until I've lost the weight from my mid section and to tone up after?

I have the Josie Gibson HIIT DVD which I have done a couple of times but want to get into a routine of doing something about 5/6 times a week and need a push to do so!

I was just wondering if anyone has found certain excercises/dvds/routines etc that has worked for them for the tummy area?

I really enjoy swimming, I actually find it relatively easy but I normally just do breast stroke - is this effective for weight loss in the tummy/love handles area?

I'm thinking of maybe going swimming once a week and then doing my dvd maybe three times a week and walking on other days. I want to mix it up so I don't get bored. Or should I just stick to one thing like the 30 day shred or the ripped in 30 dvds others have mentioned?

Look forward to your tips! Thank you

Hi Mizzo. There are no exercises that will help you lose weight from a certain area unfortunately. Any exercise that burns calories is good so do what you enjoy. Weights are great for all over toning.
Good luck

Thanks wineoclock :)

I've just ordered ripped in 30 hoping that's the change I need, fingers crossed I can stick with it!

I'm doing the 30 day shred and I can see results, my stomach is definately more toned but I am a pear shape, so I do find it relatively easy to tone there. I also swim and I think that back stroke is probably the stroke which targets the tummy most, though wineoclock is right you can't pick the area you lose weight from.
Doing a bit of swimming and something else can only be a good thing as you'll use different muscles and you're less likely to get bored!

Hi Nicky_94, yeah I've heard backstroke is best for the tummy too although I haven't done that for years so I'd be all over the place! I've always wanted my own pool so I won't get in the way of others, maybe one day.... haha!

Do you do the shred every day?

Er not quite every day but nearly...I plan to shred less and do more swimming though once the 30 days is up, I think I read somewhere you are supposed to do it 3 times a week to maintain?
I have the same problem with backstroke, I only attempt it when the pool is very quiet as otherwise I hit people...or else I use a float so I've only got my legs to worry about and I steer with my hands if necessary!

Please don't use the word "thinspiration" as it is normally
associated with anorexia and eating disorders. :clover:

Nicky_94 I'm waiting on my ripped in 30 dvd to arrive, hoping to do it at least 4 times a week if I can manage it! Going to carry on with my Josie dvd tonight though until it arrives sometime this week. I haven't bought myself a costume yet so have been putting off swimming. Silly really as I know I'll enjoy it once I'm there, it's just a self confidence issue! Good luck with the swimming and shred though!

Melanie Cheeks - apologies if I have offended you, had no idea, wasn't intended that way at all

Mizzo,
The issue is not whether Nicky_94 was offended, is it that the word can be harmful, despite your intentions. It's best just to say sorry and stop using it.

That said, you might want to try swimming freestyle (crawl) - it always helped me keep my tummy in check.

The 30 day shred by Jillian is fab but I couldn't do it on my fast days as quite intense. I prefer to just brisk walk as much as possible on fast days

The OP did say sorry and was obviously unaware of any issues.

It's never "a word", it's the associations and these are unknown to most of us, I expect, so having another go was not required here.

This is a very friendly forum; when well-meaning and innocent posts are censured, that's when people start to be afraid to post.

I shred on my fast days - been doing 4:3 and manage fine. I find it harder on the day after a fast.
Re the title tread- it can be edited by the original poster or mods if Mizzo wishes.
Or we can just be aware of using certain words in future.

Another vote for Jillian Michaels workouts. I have done the 30 day shred, and am doing it again, because the results I got were epic. I don't think you'll go wrong with Jillian, she's like a drill sergeant, but she's also really personable during her routines and is obviously enjoying herself, which makes it easier to follow.

Good luck, let us know how you get on, I was thinking about getting ripped in 30 after the 30 day shred is up! My sister has also got great results on the insanity workout so I might give that a try too.

Hi mizzo why don't you check out nadiaj's most recent post in that she provided this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJElLrpBetc which might be what you are seeking.

Nadiaj provided photos, see for yourself she looks to have lost a fair deal around her waist. All the best with it :)
