It's a public holiday here, (Happy Birthday, Betty).

I have a nasty cold. So I had some breakfast to take my ease-a-cold with. I have a new 5:2 magazine, straight from the UK, and it has a lot of breakfast and lunch ideas. I tossed up to fast or not to fast and came down on fasting but doing it the old way with breakfast and lunch. So I just had 20 gm of oats cooked in water and a tiny shot of maple syrup. It was quite tasty. That is a minuscule amount of oats! It came to 100 calls. Now for the black coffee.

Let's go Fasters!
I'm in, too. I'm doing a bit of 4:3 since I gained a little on my work trip/holiday.
I'm in too :) It's bitterly cold (by Oz standards) today - feels like snow in the air!

As usual (...!!!!) the fast is needed due to carb overload. I may join MaryAnn with 4:3 this week, if I can face it, in preparation for our 7-week caravan holiday to warmer climes. I really don't know how I am going to maintain while on hols - I find I need to eat when travelling or I get very nauseous. I won't be able to weigh myself (I am not taking the scales!!) so I shall have to develop some strategies...

Your ideas appreciated!

Happy fasting everyone. :)
I'm in. Did some more rose pruning and now I'm on the sofa with good book and the radio playing the ABC FM baroque countdown. Bliss!
Thanks Chook, I forgot about that. I'll turn it on immediately.
I'm fasting today too! Have just had coffee and water so far. Might try and have a nap to push my cuppa soup back further. It's cold and windy here in qld- the perfect weather to stay in bed :)
Sorry that your not feeling well @SallyO I hope you get better soon.
My daughter who never gets sick has a cold while trying to study for her uni finals. Tell me about the ease a cold please? What's in it and how do you find it better than other cold and flu remedies?
Xxx Julianna
Hi Everyone!
@Sallyo- miserable having a cold, hope you feel better soon.
@Julianna we use Ease a cold too- I think you have to start it as soon as you feel a sniffle coming on. My 23yr old DD used to get lots of colds but now seems to have finally built up immunity after teaching swimming to 3 and 4 yr olds!
I still haven't decided wether I'm fasting today- family all home.I think it will be 20:4
I have only had a coffee so far. I did swim my laps this morning and thought I was mad but there were quite a few at the (heated) outdoor pool enjoying the long w/e.
My Mother's birthday is the same date as the current Queen's real birthday(21st April) but she is one year younger!

Have a good day all.
I'm in too once morning gets here. I have out of town company coming at the end of the week, so I plan to fast Monday/Wednesday this week. Then the tough spot begins, my mom is staying with us for a week, then we're driving her back home & staying with her for ten days. I haven't told her I'm doing IF yet, I know she won't approve. Even sixteen/eight will be tough (sorry, numbers aren't working on my keyboard, I keep getting symbols.)
I suppose if anyone noticed I was losing weight, I could manage, but no one has noticed, so I don't want to say anything. I'll figure it out...."may the fast be with you" today.
I love sharing a birthday with HM.
Have a good one everybody! X
I had no idea it was Queenie's B'day..why don't we ALL get two birthdays!
XX keep strong! XX i fasted yesterday to complete a week of ADF,will be strange not to be in on aMonday
Get well soon @Sallyo. ..hi@Gigi55!...a special :like: to @Kaya Pritchard..have a fab fast! X
Hi @MLCDz

Thinking of you for your mother's visit and the time at her place... Why DO we care so much about our mother's approval? I know it has been a lifelong issue for me. I was lucky re 5:2 because I had lost a noticeable amount of weight before I "had" to tell her about this WOL.

I stay with my parents for one week in every 6, and somehow was able to do the fasts without her noticing. On a fast day I would say that I had already had breakfast, if she asked (as I do all the chores when visiting, she wouldn't notice one less breakfast bowl). I would have a large salad for lunch but with only a small amount of protein - which seemed okay to her cos I normally have a large salad for lunch. Then just protein and veg for dinner, again as normal. No snacking of course. Then the other 5 days I would eat as I usually would, snacks and choccie included!

(So mum has seen how this WOL works in practice, and has even said that this seems to be the only "diet" that works! She does also make comments about losing too much weight, tho, needless to say, and keeps asking if I have lost more weight (no) as she can't get used to seeing me slimmer.)

Maybe you can also disguise your fasting - chose your fast days as the ones where it will be easier to do so.

Best of luck! :)
I'm in today too. Quite looking forward to it. In the UK, as we have hot weather at the moment (ok - I know all you bods in sunnier places think this is freezing, but it's all relative), I find that the fast days help to keep me cool :)
I'm in today for the usual Monday fast. I am off for a jog in a while and then not sure what to do later. It was humid here yesterday.
How are we all going? I had a wrap for lunch - I had some ancient unopened corn wraps in the bread box left by a visitor and this seemed the occasion to open them. Tinned salmon, carrot, tomato and basil. They say 150 calories. So that's 250 so far. Sitting by the fire listening to the Baroque and Beyound Count down and falling asleep. Dinner will be chicken thighs roasted with pumpkin and tomato, onion and garlic with lemon juice and olive oil I think it is more calories than the magazine claims though: they say 177 but how can it be if it has 2 tablespoons of olive oil? It has to be at least 200 calories. Also I've changed the veggies to what I have in the fridge, so it might be different.

Ease-a-cold is vitamin C, echinacea and zinc. The night tablets have valerian in them as well. As gigi55 says, you should start taking it as soon as you get that tickle in your throat and think you might be getting a cold. If you do that you can often avoid getting the cold altogether. I have left it a little late and it will just shorten and lessen the cold. You get them in the supermarket in the medical aisle. I swear by them.
I am in. Feeling a bit wobbly this morning but ready for work with a small prawn salad to keep me going on this first of two fasts this week.
