01 Feb 2014, 05:05
Hey! I've never bean able to do this before...I'm first in!

Looking forward to my chilli con carne this evening (already and it's only 5 am!!)

Hi Bean and All, I've been fasting today and just had my red lentil and eggplant curry dinner which was not very satisfying. First time I've not found it enough. I didn't get the curry mix right and it ended up being too tasteless. I realise it's critical the single meal tastes either sensational or really filling. This was neither.

I realise a really dangerous moment for me is after a poor meal. I start to think I have good reason to eat whatever. I will never again just make-do. It's prawns or something yum next fast.

Beano, I think I might be 'in' too, to combat the effect of those chocs last night!
Have planned lunch (rollmop herring!) and not sure what to have tonight. Might be a quorn chilli and green salad.
Know what you mean, @Jo05 about the filling and tasty bit. I love lentils and eggplant (aubergine to us) but need to bulk it up with plenty of other veg too - make a sort of veggie dhansak.
Happy fasting everyone, everywhere!

I'm in too, actually got to goal weight this morning, but am going ahead with my fast as I had it planned.

I'm planning on eating pad thai this evening, I'm looking forward to it already!!

Thanks for that @PennyForthem, I have learnt the lesson today. It got really close to a break. Oh gosh I'm so vulnerable to a break. But I'm proud to have done 5 fasts now. I can only thanks my supports.
Thanks again.

I'm in :sleepy:

Jo, you are spot on about the meals. On my last fast day I failed to plan properly. For me, the worst part is that I didn't have the comfort throughout the day that you get when you KNOW there's something yummy ahead. Earlier in the week I had cheated and bought some M&S ready meals, all of which I thoroughly (to my amazement) enjoyed. Possibly part of the enjoyment stemmed from not having to work out the calories. I do find that incredibly tedious.

Hairy dieters filo topped chicken pie for dinner, with greens.

Rollmop herring  My childhood is revisited = glääääää. In the fishy world it's as bad as pickled herring....And yes, I am a Swede and I simply hate fish

Hi @Winsome,
Good luck today. Ok there's an idea, buying a pre-made meal. That might work actually. And oh gosh yes its tedious, and not something sustainable when i get busy from march onwards. Thanks for the idea - I will look for something pre-made for now and then.

I also think the winner for me is a nice piece of salmon or prawns with steam veg. I'm going to go with either.
cheers

@Wolfie My dad is the same, a Swede who can't stand fish, he does love kräftor though!

@Jo05
I start by browning garlic and ginger, then stir frying tofu for me and chicken for my other half, then I add whatever vegetables I have on hand, broccoli and carrots and mushrooms usually feature heavily, but it depends on what I have. While I'm doing that I soak the noodles in just boiled water.
The sauce recipe is:
1.5 tbsp tamarind paste (you can sub lime juice)
1/4 cup water
3.5 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce (you can sub chilli flakes or any hot sauce if you like it hot)
3 tbsp agave (you can sub honey/sugar)

You just whisk it all together, taste, and add to the pan with the noodles for a minute or two and it's done. Bon appétit!

Hello all :) I'm in today which is unusual for me on a Saturday.

I have often used a ready made meal on a fast day, although you do have to be careful and choose something good. There are plenty of rubbish ones out there! And of course I know ready made are more expensive than home made, but sometimes the convenience wins over the price! I recommend Waitrose, M&S and Cook (cookfood.net if you're in the UK)

I will make it on a feast day even....and I just brought some tofu - perfecto!

Yeah, I'm up for my usual Saturday fast. Don't even mind when hubby has cake at the coffee shop!

What a merry bunch of fasters we are! As far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with a good ready meal on a fast day...they're just so convenient. I'm planning on having a Hairy Dieter recipe one day...when I've got the energy...their book is currently sitting quietly on my Kindle

The hairy dieters are just awesome. They pack so much flavour into low calories meals. My family love their sweet and sour chicken, cottage pie, chicken korma and various others I've tried. All excellent so far. I plan to work my way through both books!
