Should I worry about 16:8 yet?
14 Oct 2013, 15:48
Since I just started 5:2 I obviously have quite a bit of weight to lose and I've been reading lots of posts about people doing 16:8 on their feed days...Now, I think I might have an issue with that for various reasons. Mostly at the moment because my TDEE is something like 2100+ there is no way I could fit that much in in 8 hrs unless I was snacking constantly. So, do you think it might be better for me to work on just 5:2 to start with and have my weight come down some before trying 16:8 or just try it anyway and hope I can fit enough calories in that my body doesn't go into starvation?

Thanks!
Hi and welcome:

Please, forget about 16:8. Just focus on doing 5:2 properly for at least two months, and then continue doing 5:2 until you reach your goal.

16:8 is simply a reduced calorie diet - if you make it that way - that has nothing to do with 5:2 or fasting.

Good Luck!
Hiya Dreamer, I don't know why you're worrying about 16:8 when you're doing so well on 5:2. Relax hun and enjoy the fact that you can lose weight and it is this easy. Don't stress about it. I do do a 16:8 midweek sometimes, but only if my non-fast day eating seems to be getting out of hand. You're doing so well, just keep doing what you're doing. x
Dee :)
Hi Dreamy! First i would say, please don't worry about anything! Anything at all!
Second, from what ive read here, just focus on 5:2 til its firmly in place and youre totally comfortable with it
Then its time to start thinking about your feed days and how best they can work for you
My TDEE is high too ( 1900 ish) and on feed days i vary the amount i eat..,so for 2 days i have 1700 cals, 2 days i have 1400... One day i have 2000,usually satday. Only a rough cal count coz i really dont want to spend any more of my life calculating calories!
Trying to mix it up to keep my metabolism on its toes
Have only just started this so not sure how it will work out,but its trial and error to find what works best. x
Hi dreamer
As you know i've got loads to lose and what has worked very well is 2X 5:2 then 2@ 16:8 these last 2 are actually more like 20:4 because i do this when eating out at night. I fast all day then evening meals + drinks regardless of calories. Mostly I'm well under my TDEE which is high
like yours.
But you seem to be doing ok with the 5:2 so maybe use the 16:8 as + when you need to ( plateau or meals out )
Not sure if this is any help but it works for me :clover: Sue
Thank you all for the replies  I was just wondering if I should incorporate that yet but I will just focus on 5:2 for now and see how that goes.

Hahaha you just summed me up perfectly- I have NO patience when it comes to stuff like this!
I'd agree with the previous posts - concentrate on 5:2 and give yourself time, you've not been doing this for very long yet and I'm sure you realise it's not a quick answer... so just go with the 5:2 for now ... look forward to seeing how it all goes for you. :clover:
First off DayDreamer you are doing an AWESOME job :like:

I was around your BMI not too long ago and even heavier at times in my life :frown:

I would just say stick with the 5:2 and the occasional 16:8 if you noticed you haven't eaten breakfast yet or are saving calories for a big meal. I switched to 4:3 after my second week of fasting and haven't looked back

Its not for everyone, but I prefer it as I can eat whatever I like on the weekends and eat well and exercise during the week :victory:

Keep up the great work Lady!

Thanks Koot, I'm not too sure I could do 3:4 just yet- maybe after Christmas when I need to lose some of those extra pounds I'm sure to have gained lol. I'll be away at my boyfriends for New Years so it will be so much easier to 3:4 there.
Thanks for your reply and btw, that picture is SUPER CUTE!! What a gorgeous smile.

Love and peace,
Dreamer x
Thanks! I love my little Jamie

I hope that you continue to rock and have a great Chistmas and New Years with your fella
