Side effects
15 Sep 2016, 05:19
Hi I have been a devoted follower of the fast diet for 2 years. I definitely lost weight and felt great.
However lately i have had violent diarrhea the day after my fast especially after eating a light breakfast. It can also occur after lunch. Am at my wits end as i have had to stop fasting and have put weight back on as a result. Help!

Sorry to hear. I've only experienced constipation so I'm afraid I can't help. @Carorees?

I honestly can't imagine how this is related to fasting. You may have another condition. For how long has this been going on? Perhaps you could try a more modified form, such as eating windows.

Since the weight loss from fasting is so slow (typically about 3/4 pound in a week), I am surprised to hear you've gained weight by not fasting recently. I can't help but wonder if something else is going on.

In the meantime, if you can't fast, you can always stick to your TDEE and/or reduce your carb intake. Both of these should offset your inability to fast so you don't gain weight.

You reminded me that I had exactly this same problem with window fasting. On the other had, I was kinda pleased, because I knew that my system was being emptied and weight was being lost. But I had completely forgotten that problem. So I must but conclude that 'it will pass'.

Sometimes fasting can reveal am underlying food intolerance. By resting the gut during the fasting hours from whatever the culprit is, your gut objects to whatever it is when you eat it the next day. Food intolerance can also cause weight gain due to inflammation. Maybe look at what you're breaking your fast with and try something completely different? Stress can also cause a change in bowel habit.
Hope it resolves soon!

I see on the windows thread you're having muesli for breakfast. Maybe try cutting that out first, and having fruit and yogurt, then if no change try not having dairy for breakfast.
