Hi All...

Watched the Horizon documentary last year, and although impressed, filed it away for future use. Since then I moved to the US and got married and the weight crept on an already overweight body. I'm not allowed to work yet, and the Minnesota winters are long and chilly and when bored with little to do I come up with all kinds of things to cook. I LOVE food and adore cooking and have a small cupcake business about to launch. Surrounded by food I have failed miserably on every other diet I have tried. I am currently a member of Slimming World and although a big fan having lost weight in the past, I just don't seem to be in the right headspace for full on food monitoring. Then I was reminded of the 5:2 plan by a friend back in Blighty, so my new hubby and I started today. I have devoured the book and am trawling this site for every useful piece of advice I can get. Hubby is going for the 2 x meals a day, I am trying for just the one. I have never been a big breakfast eater and find that once I start eating in the day then I think about food a lot more. So far so good, no food since 7pm last night (which was surprise surprise, pancakes :D). Today have had tea and water, both which have sated my appetite, so far at least. No tummy rumblings yet which I am surprised and very happy about.

Tonight is our first trip to the gym too... nothing too strenuous as I detest exercise, so just a stint on the treadmill and elliptical then home to a (hopefuly) yummy grilled pork and roasted veg dinner.

I have a ton to lose (and not kidding... I think I have the equivalent of an 8-year old to lose!) But I am going to aim for 7lbs at a time. Slow and steady and all that....

Anyhooooo, sorry for the long rambling intro. Wish you all well on your 5:2 adventure!
Hi Caroline and welcome! :)

Good to have you join us from the other side of the pond!
Hi Caroline. A Huge Well Done for managing 20 whole hours without food. I'm struggling to go 12. Only done three fast days so far though. You're an inspiration!
Thanks both for the welcome.

I am super impressed with the plan. I went over my 36 hours with just one meal, of course it helped that I spent about 14 hours of that fast asleep! And not sure if I'm imagining it or not but I already felt better today. I expected to wake up starving today and hoover up food all around me but I just had cereal for breakfast and kept busy, totally forgetting to eat lunch! I didn't realise until around 3 so decided to hang on until dinner to eat. I couldn't have asked for a better start. I'm excited for the next one and my first weigh in next Wednesday. I'll keep you posted :D

I know not every fast day will be like that, and I'll be looking to you guys and all the other people on here for inspiration!
I am starting Fast day No. 4 (over last 12 days). Weighed myself this morning and I have lost 4.5 lbs so far. Mustn't get too excited though as whichever diet I have tried, I always stall at 10lbs lost. This diet seems far easier to do so I have high hopes.
Precilla

Thats great! Fab job on the weight loss... I know what you mean about stalling. Been there myself. I did my second fast yesterday and went equally as well as the first... although now the inlaws are here for the weekend, so not sure if I'll have a bit of a setback. I'm planning on Monday and Wednesday fasts next week and weigh in on wednesday. Like you I have high hopes... Keep me posted on your progress :)
Good luck Caroline! I also run a cake business and it's virtually impossible to stick to regular "diets" when doing so, I mean those products need to be tested for quality control!!
I also tend to go for one meal a day on fast days as I find it much easier to put all thoughts of food out of my head on fast days until dinner time with the kids instead of trying to find a few low calorie meals during the day.
BTW I also tend to stall at about 1 stone weight loss, here's hoping :)
Typically a stall occurs at 10% of body weight lost and/or at around 6 months into a slow weight loss regime. I posted a bit about stalls a while back. Often it's due to your TDEE reducing but your calorie intake has not reduced with it so you are in energy balance. Once you have lost 10% of body weight it's worth reassessing your calorie requirements. Hopefully the appetite suppressing effects of fasting will help with this!
Planning to start this tomorrow!!! So looking for lots of encouragement here. I've been thinking about starting this diet since the programme but been v. busy with a new job. My daughter persuaded me to join Weight watchers after Xmas but my head feels like yours with the constant monitoring. I really want this to work for my health as much as my weight, I am really pleased to have found this encouraging forum.
Fabfuschsia, well done for making the decision. I'm on fast day No. 5 today and have just had my fave breakfast from michaels book, ie, 100g cottge cheese, one slice ham and a pear. A bit of a continental breakfast I think. Never feel hungry after that. Will be having fish for dinner this evening. Not quite into the chef bit yet so have a tendency for very simple, quickly prepared meals.
