Hi all,

Looking forward to my first fast day tomorrow, like many my biggest issue is how to go about it. I'm thinking maybe small grapefruit first thing, plenty of water and some black coffee throughout the day, homemade soup for lunch and again for dinner but with some extra chicken. Should stick to the 600 kcal limit.
May go to worked armed with some celery just in case.

I think I'm getting too involved in spreading my calories over the day when I should perhaps remember its only one day before you can eat normally again.

I'm picking tues and thurs as my FDs which is better for me with work. I do tend to eat sensibly and exercise regularly during the working week and relax a little over the weekend.

I'm hoping to lose about 7lb over the next four weeks and who knows this could be a permenant lifestyle change for me. Time will tell.

An well here goes......
Hi and welcome

Gold luck with your first fast. It's good that you have a plan. Everyone has to find their own way of doing their fasts and this can change with time. A lot of people have migrated to having one meal as eating just a small amount can increase hunger for some. Others find a high protein breakfast like eggs helps. Just experiment over your fasts to see.

If you only have 7 lb to lose it may well take more than 4 weeks I'm afraid. If you look at the forum stats in the progress tracker you'll see that the average is 1 lb a week. I don't want to put you off but best not set too high expectations! Having said that, I lost 2 lb a week for the first 2 months but then I have a lot to lose.

Definitely remember it's only a day till you can eat freely!
Thanks for the good luck wishes and support Caroline. I think this forum will be my saving grace. Lots of interesting topics and suggestions to keep the mind off the hunger pangs too.

See you on the other side.... So to speak.

Nick.
Good luck Nick, from another newbie (day 2 yesterday for me, now feasting until Tues!) - enjoy the grapefruit ;-)
Thanks Catherine....already changed plan didn't feel hungry this morning so decided to forgo grapefruit!! Mis read your post thought you said "fasting" til Tuesday !!!
Welcome Njgnjg1 to the forum and you already got the prize for the most unpronounceable username! Just looking at it gets my tongue twisted :)
Hi Dominic... Nothing interesting re pronunciation its just my initials!!
Nick.
Oh well nearly at the end of my first fast day and I must say I haven't found it too bad at all. I didn't bother with breakfast in the end as, well I just didn't fancy any. For lunch I had a small bowl of homemade chicken and vegetable soup and a handful of grapes and cherries. For dinner I had homemade turkey chilli (217kcal) with a small portion of rice. All in all I came in under the 600 kcal limit.
I did feel the hunger kick in around tea time but knowing I was due to have a meal got me through it.
I was also surprised how a much smaller portion still satisfied my hunger.
I'm hitting the sack shortly and am anxious as to how I will sleep given some of the problems members have experienced. We will see.

The one thing that has helped the most is the knowledge that the calorie restriction is only for one day and that tomorrow I can eat as normal. With that in mind I seemed to just accept that I cannot have a treat or a snack and that all I have to do is wait a few hours.
This is the mindset I hope will carry me through the next few weeks and maybe even beyond.
Well done Nick, hope you made it through the night without lying awake thinking about food! You may be surprised to find how unhungry you are the morning after a fast.

And the first fast day is the hardest!

Yes that is what makes 5:2 so achievable, especially for those of us who like treats!
