I have another question :)
16 Feb 2013, 13:18
For example, if I failed 5x in a row one week to attempt on having a fast day but halfway through the day I thought sod it, I am having cake or whichever and said right, I will start again tomorrow - depending on what I ate I could have still only had 1000 calories if I broke my fast halfway through that day, wouldn't that affect my overall weekly calorie deficit and slow my metabolism down?

I don't understand where 1000 calories comes in.

Either you have a fast day with 500 calories or you don't.

I mean if I were to attempt a fast day of 500 calories but blew it halfway through the day and exceeded my calories then had another go the following day. If I kept blowing it, would it affect my calorie deficit for the week as I would have kept trying and then blowing it continuously?

I think what you mean is that each day you intend to fast but end up blowing it and end up with approx 1000 calories per day, ie 7000 per week.

Yes you'll still lose weight but that is a calorie reduced diet not fasting which equals zero health benefits.

Yeah okie dokes - this isn't actually happening by the way (well yesterday it did) I fasted all day till 5pm and ate leftover Valentine choccies. My official fasting days are Monday and Thursday so have no unhealthy food in the cupboards now. Today, I didn't eat until 1pm but that's usually the case on a weekend - I am going out for drinks tonight so I couldn't class this as a fast day. Bring on Monday!

I got Valentine chocs as well but immediately hid them until yesterday and today - they are all gone now! I fast Mon & Thurs as well, as so many others do. If you are tempted to over on fasting days instead of going to the cupboard go to the forum. All you need to do is read the 'fasting today comments', that will take a while, make you feel like your not the only one and it will re-motivate you to see the day through. The forum has helped me a lot.

Plus there is some evidence that constant calorie restriction in this way results in higher levels of the hunger hormones making you so hungry that you are likely to give up and then when you decide to stop calorie restricting you will massively overeat. That's why all the other diets fail in the long run.

Yeah, that's the big difference for me. I'm not constantly starving, except on fast days and then it's ok, I'm supposed to be hungry, I acknowledge it and it goes away.

It's OH b'day and he wanted to go out to brunch so no early brekkie, wasn't really hungry even though it had been a fast day yesterday.
