Hello,
I'm so enthusiastic about this diet it feels manageable and sustainable. I would like to lose 8stone ideally, and feel that following a 3:4 ratio for a while might help shift some good amounts early on. I was planning fasting Monday, Wednesday, Friday as this would fit my routine quite well. I did 2:5 last week and lost 3lbs which was really easy. I thought I would make use of this early enthusiasm and go for 3:4 does anyone have any thoughts?
Hi catscratch

Welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you are enthusiastic! However, I would suggest not going for 4:3 at this stage. Firstly, as you have quite a bit of weight to lose you should find the weight comes off pretty steadily. Second, rapid weight loss is not a good idea...the is a risk of developing gallstones which can be very painful and even dangerous...I saw a thread about it today...worth a read. Third, it's good to keep 4:3 up you're sleeve for when you've had a particularly indulgent week or for when you reach the inevitable slow down.

I had 4-5 stone to lose and have lost about 2 stone in four months, which I think is plenty quick enough.

If you look at the forum stats in the progress tracker you'll aware that the 4:3 people are not losing weight enormously faster than the 5:2ers.

Don't lose your enthusiasm though!
I have also decided to try 3 fasting days on Mon, Wed and Fri as i have a lot of weight to lose and it sounds quite do-able. Started today!
I'm not sure it makes a huge difference. I do ADF and I'm losing 1.1 lbs per week averaged over 6 weeks...

Plus my skin is reacting well to the slow loss. Don't want to be left with an apron, rather be fat.

Others may contradict me as it'll be different for other people.
Thanks for the quick replies! I had a quick look at the stats and I can see what you mean. For my group the average loss seems to be around 2lbs a week which would be fine. I'm riding the wave of my enthusiasm so want to keep going at this ratio but the diet is so flexible I can change as and when the enthusiasm inevitably wains! I do regard this as something I can do long term especially as my husband and son are really keen. I've tried so many regimes dragging them reluctantly along but this time seems different as there aren't any weird recipes or food fads to follow. They like the sound of 'feast' days!and the ease of abstinence.
