Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Started the plan last Mon and did 2 fast days then another yesterday. The rest of the time I ate normally, didn't count calories and had 2 days of overeating. have been doing power walking every morning for 40 mins plus a zumba class once a week and when I weighed myself yesterday I had lost 8 lbs... nearly fell off the scales. Have NEVER had that sort of weight loss before. I've got around 3 stone to lose and thought 1-2 lb per week was the aim? Although appreciate this won't happen every week
That's brilliant. All that exercise must have been worth it. Good for you.
Fantastic!!! I have done my first week with 2 fast days and no exercise and still lost 5lb, l am just enjoying it as it is the first week, lets see what happens on next weight in.
Hope you carry on with the good weight loss xxx
well done MistyGray and Marni !! I am three weeks in and lost 7lbs the first fortnight then nothing last week.....will see what the rest of this week brings as I did have quite a busy weekend (ie ate and drink too much!) ..... hopefully it will keep going down!!
Well done everyone! One question I do have; if I am burning say 350 calories during exercise on a fast day, can I add this amount to my 500 allowance for the day and have 850?

The idea is to restrict your food intake on fast days, so no.
Well done you must be really pleased, how exciting and motivating for you :D
Unlike other diets you can't add calories on your fast days when you exercise ;)
This was some advice from Talkinpeace, which I used to check how maky kcals I should be having. I do lots of exercise, but mot much to lose and am a shortarse, so it actually meant for me that I should have just UNDER 500 kcals on a fast day (but at least I know!!).....

Look up your TDEE ....
then look at your eating across the week ....

2 days of 500 calories
2 days of at or just under your TDEE
2 days of within a smidgin (10% ish) of your TDEE
1 day of splurge and eating what feels good.

if your TDEE is around 2000, then the two fasts offset by the splurge day will still leave you a deficit of around 2000 calories a week = around 1 - 2 pounds a week loss
healthily
until your TDEE drops as you get leaner.....

There are lots of sites to look up your TDEE.
Links to TDEE calculators in the faq!
Thank you Lucky7 and carorees. I've calculated my TDEE to be 2500 but I'm averaging around 2000 on feast days so over the course of a week, eating 6500 less calories than my TDEE recommends. Is that too little?? Or ok if I am happy? Just want to keep an eye on the feast days so I don't overdo it!!
Well done you. Just prepare yourself for a possible plateau over the next couple of weeks

Thanks, I'm certainly not expecting that every week!! I know when I've dieted before I often had no loss or v small ones. :o
Wouldn't it be great to lose 8lb a week. I would only need to diet for a couple of months!!!
As long as you are still loading it's fine. As your weight decreases so will your TDEE so the 2000 may not be far off!
Thats great Mistgray!

I've had the same loss in a week but went on a low calorie diet the first week as I knew I could drop a few pounds fast and thought it would be slower on this diet. Looks like I was wrong as it's worked for you! I lost 6.5 mon till sunday and another 1.5 after first fast day taking it up to 8lbs. Wondered if the fast day cals would go back on but another. 5 gone missing this morning. (i usually do lose big when I start a diet but no staying power sadly)

I wanted to reduce calories a bit on feed days for a few weeks as I really want to lose a stone.

Carorees - do you think a few weeks on low cal feed days would have adverse affect on metabolism?
