Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

hiya i started doing the 5:2 in jan and was really enjoying it and doing really well. I have a health condition and had to stop til i felt better.....this could be the way i have to do the programme.....just wondering if anyone else has health problems meaning they have to stop and start and if so how do they cope?

Even if you can't formally fast, you could try to have reasonable gaps between food, which may be beneficial in itself. Also the calorie restriction they used in the longevity studies in rats was about 20% so you could always do a standard diet with calorie restriction. The other possibility is the 2 day diet. This is a bit more complicated than the fast diet as you can't eat just what you want on the 5 days but the calorie restriction on the 2 days is not so severe. There is a thread on it somewhere.
