Goals, Dreams and Hopes

Hello, just thought I'd bob in here and intrduce myself.

Im a full time mum and student and Im starting the diet tomorrow with a fast day and another on Wednesday. I may switch to 4:3 but will see how I get on. Ive always had problems with my weight and have successfully lost weight befre with sw (3 stone, 13 years ago) and ww (2 stone, 3 years ago). Been trying ww again in the past year but Im finding juggling my degree and family life really stressful and havent really been in the right frame of mind. Have lost 7lbs on numerous occasions after 'starting again' but then had an essay or exam looming and so reached for food and put it back on. At which point I feel like Ive blown it and so just pack in. Anyhow I feel that 5:2 is right for me, it allows me to reach for food on feast days when I need to and restrict myself on fast days. Ive worked out my DCR and have a few extra calories to play with above the 2000/500 if I need them.

Ive set myself a few goals for this month:-
* Lose my first 7 lb
* Get into the next stone bracket
* Lose 5% of my body weight

I dream of losing all the excess weight I have gained slowly over the past 10ish years and cant wait for the day I can fit into my wedding dress again.

I really hope this diet will work for me, because at the moment with other diets I feel really out of control and not sure what the next step will be if I cant lose weight with 5:2.

Hi Papillon and welcome aboard!

Once you get over the first couple of fast days which can be tricky, I think you will get on well with 5:2, it is so flexible.

Your 7 lb/ 5% weight loss in a month may well occur or it may not. I certainly lost 2 lb a week for the first month but not everyone does. So perhaps a goal of losing a particular amount might be a bit dangerous? If, I might suggest a goal of perhaps giving the diet 6 weeks before deciding what you think of it?

If you go to the progress tracker and look at the forum stats, you can filter our data by your own characteristics to see how other people like you have done, this will tell you if 7 lb in a month is likely.

Or just don't put a fixed time to achieve your goals.

Having said all this, though, the diet is really fab and so easy, I don't think you'll mind what speed the weight comes off because it really can be carried on indefinitely.

Anyway, enough rabbiting, have a wander round our site and good luck with your first fasts.

Thank you for yor reply.

Ive not made myself clear, Im not sure how long it will take to reach my goals and im not bothered if it takes over a month just as long as Im losing and still being able to enjoy my feast days. I think I should have wrote here's my goals for now, which is more what I meant, rather than here's what I want to do in my first month. Thanks for pointing that out for me :)

Ok! Brilliant...those are great goals and I'm sure you'll achieve them.

I'm certainly enjoying my weekend feast days...waffles with lemon curd for brekkie, baguette & cheese with tomatoes for lunch, cake and tea this afternoon, chicken curry, rice, wine, raspberries and cream for dinner...mmm! Bet you're not allowed that on ww or sw!!

Hi Papillon.....so welcome to the site
I immediately empathized....been there ...done every diet...lost and put it all on again plus some more!
This is the first time I have felt so totally in control....and not the diet controlling me....tomorrow (Monday) should be my fast day but due to circumstances I cannt do it tomorrow....now on other diets(this is WOL not a diet) that would have thrown me off track and perhaps even messed up my attitude for the full week....but on 5:2...I just shifted my fast day to today and Im right back on schedule!!!....nothing is banned...there's no deprivation
Im very new....only 7 fasts...but the results have been good and the fasts are easier each time.....stick with it ....and I really wish you luck....you will get great support on here and some great tips to keep you on track! :D

Thank you Virginia, thats really inspiring to hear you can relate to my experiences and I too wold have blown a full week because of 1 day.

I feel really motivated and inspired by all the information I have gathered about the diet and about the success stories from people plus not to mention the health benefits. I know I can do it, I know that one day of restricting myself means I can then have whatever I fancy the following day.

Really cant wait for tomorrow :)
